I think my old-time banjo playing has been most influenced by the following examples, from whose recordings I have listened to slavishly, attempting to steal everything I possibly could; Wade Ward, Fred Cockerham, Franklin George, and Dock Boggs. Heath Curdts taught me a few tunes in person, and showed me some of the techniques that he learned from Tommy Jarrell. Other, influences that quickly come to mind include Morgan Sexton, Roscoe Holcomb, Mike Seeger, Bob Flesher, and R.D. Lunsford. Now that I am learning the fiddle (as of 2010), I have especially strong admiration for Tommy Jarrell, Posey Rorer, and perhaps, Billy Mathews.

It will bloom this weekend, I'm sure. I see the buds about to open. Now, I live in the warmest temperate place which actually has seasons (USDA zone 8b, gets down to +20 F). I used to live near Ann Arbor, Michigan (-20F). It won't be 6-7 more weeks till anything blooms there. Eat your heart out folks.... you'll get yours!
Good notes to you all. Dock Jekel
