Favorite Bands/Musicians: I think my old-time banjo playing has been most influenced by the following examples, from whose recordings I have listened to slavishly, attempting to steal everything I possibly could; Wade Ward, Fred Cockerham, Franklin George, and Dock Boggs. Heath Curdts taught me a few tunes in person, and showed me some of the techniques that he learned from Tommy Jarrell. Other, influences that quickly come to mind include Morgan Sexton, Roscoe Holcomb, Mike Seeger, Bob Flesher, and R.D. Lunsford. Now that I am learning the fiddle (as of 2010), I have especially strong admiration for Tommy Jarrell, Posey Rorer, and perhaps, Billy Mathews.

Cyberspaced!

| Wow. I started hanging out on BHO about a week ago and am very impressed how many enthusiastic banjo players there are to meet in cyberspace. I am starting to feel like a fish in a big pond. Thanks to everybody for their good spirit and great picking they have shared on line. |
