It arrived yesterday afternoon in good shape and it was even in tune! But the MOST important thing is...it sounds RIGHT! I can hear that HR-30 tone ring and engineered rim plunk/growl in it, but it still has a great ringing tone, but with proper decay. It’s clear as a bell all the way up the neck. Oh, and the volume! THE VOLUME!
Although it doesn’t look like it, it IS a VRB-G. What makes this one look different are a several of things:
-I thought the Granada engraving to be “too subdued.” So, I asked Mr. Huber to have the gold parts engraved with his “Lexington” model engraving.
-Rather than the clamshell tailpiece, I asked for a Presto tailpiece.
-In the same vein, I felt the plain gold tone ring needed some help. So, I asked Mr. Huber to have the tone ring engraved with the Jim Mills tone ring engraving.
-Like Chris Isaak, I wanted my name on this critter, so Mr. Huber engraved my name on the truss rod cover.
-Finally, I asked Mr. Huber to install stainless steel frets. What a great job they did on the frets...smooth as glass!
I've posted some photos of my year-ago Christmas present. My wife says it’s my Christmas-birthday-anniversary-new year’s-valentine’s-St. Patrick’s-Easter-Memorial-4th of July-Labor-Halloween-Thanksgiving-Groundhog-Arbor Day present...for the next twenty years! That's okay...with this new Huber, I don't NEED anything else!
Thanks (and a BIG tip of the 'ol Stetson) to Steve Huber, Jim Runnells, and all the folks at Huber Banjos. It was worth the wait!
