handling the banjo

I resently purchased a 1990 Granada.Over the years I've had a pre-war Gibson,a mid-70's Mastertone,and a Richileiu.I had no problem handling ( picking up ) these banjos by the neck.However,I'm somewhat skidish to handle the Granada in the same fashion.How do you folks pick your banjos' up of the stand or out of the case?I'm new to BHO.I've read some good info thus far.
