Coffee stained Goat hide - I like this one a lot!

Wednesday, June 20, 2012 @5:29:31 AM

This head sold quickly in the classifieds.  I coffee stained it during the mounting process.  I love the natural look of it.  The color doesn't look contrived - just aged.  The hue is a very nice amber that will look great on lots of different banjos.

I mounted this hide with the flesh side facing up.  (I normally reverse and put the grain side up). This type of mounting shows more contrast between the fleshy white areas and the translucent spots.

The coffee: I used a Kona blend ground from whole beans - for you connoisseurs ;<)

I'd be willing to bet this would keep somebody awake at night.
