Right Hand Wont Do What the Brain Tells It!
Friday, July 20, 2012 @8:30:35 AM
The right hand seems to be tired some nights during the week, you want to play faster but I just cant. I notice when this happens it is better to play to one of Mark Becks tracks, or do what I did last night and put it down! I will change strings this weekend to give her a new crisp sound.I notice the more songs I learn the harder it gets, you cant get to all the songs everyday, I am working on new ones (Blackberry Blossom & Old Home Place) Murphy Method, they are a little tougher tunes that need allot of practice.Just under two years but still need on some days allot of warm up, I guess this is normal, I'm sure this will take years to get better at, but I will stick with it. Happy Pickin'

I'm with you Mario... there are some days where it's just been tough at work or maybe I didn't get enough sleep the night before and that right hand doesn't respond... but then all of a sudden you get a couple good hours in over the weekend and you feel like Tony Trischka...

Maybe you could try practising in the mornings before your hands get tired. That way your hands will become more accustomed to playing quickly. Warming up is also an essential, especially as we get a bit older. If you don't warm up first the muscles tend to tighten up and only relaxation will relieve the tension. I let my arms hang loose and then I shake my hands as if they're wet and I want to shake them dry. This gets the blood circulating properly before you start.

Hope it helps. The best thing is to just keep at it and have fun doing it.
