New York Times Earl Scruggs tribute video with Steve Martin, Steve Arkin, and Noam Pikelny

Friday, March 30, 2012 @8:13:18 AM

I got a serendipitous call today from a fellow at the New York Times who wanted to interview me about the importance of banjo great Earl Scruggs, who died this morning. This video is the result.

Also, don't forget to sign up for Banjo Camp North. It's going to be great this time around in both bluegrass and old-time! http://www.mugwumps.com/bcn.html

Steve.
You still alive and kickin'? I got the same call from the NY Times and was on vacation and didn't want to do it over the phone. I did recommend You and Marc Horowitz though...Jack

Steve,
Just watched you and Noam--very nice. I'm surprised that Bill Keith wasn't approached also or perhaps he was?....my very best Steve, Jack

Hi Jack--thanks for suggesting me, although I thought I was just going to be part of a panel discussion; not play alongside Noam! What do you mean by your third post ("RE: NY Times Reporter call...")?

Hi Steve,
The posts are just appearing out of order by me or I simply misspoke?. I was only called once and turned it down because I was on vacation in TX. I did recommend you and Marc Horowitz though...Good interview by you and Noam and good playing for sure Steve...

You were very important to my development a long time agao and I've never forgotten....be well my friend....Jack
