slowed down banjo
Monday, July 23, 2012 @12:25:22 AM
Hey, just curious...has anyone out there ever considered slowing down banjo playing/picking to elicit deep emotion? Maybe it is just me and I admit that I do not have much experience but I can't help being drawn to this concept... :>) Thank you!!! :>)

Welcome to the Hangout!! I enjoy slow pickin' once in while....but I really like the hard drivin' bluegrass, and knock-down-clawhammer stuff... :-D |

I like to play slow songs sometimes, too, and really enjoy them. Right now I'm working on Alley Cat (it's in the tab archives). It's slow, has lots of really beautiful chords and you can get a lot of emotion from it. |

I really like playing slow. I often write slow tunes. You learn an awful lot about tone when you play slowly. |

Everything I play is slow. It's not intentional :-D |

That progression sounds very similar to the Fureys on 'When you were sweet sixteen'. Another lovely slow song that A: featured the banjo and B: become a hit 1981 at no. 14 in the charts despite featuring the banjo. |

Hi, everyone! :>) Thank you for the warm welcome! Wow, love both the Kruger Brothers' Beautiful Nothing and Ashokan Farewell! Awesome job, Chris! Thanks for the examples! Have yet to check out the Fureys When you were sweet sixteen... :>) LOLL, Jane! |

Some others sprang to mind while I was at work today. heaven forbid I should have my mind on the job lol!
Take a look at Jim Mills playing "How Great Thou Art"
The Lonesome River Band's "Mary Ann"
You should be able to find them quite easily on YouTube. |
