WOW......finally....mykindapeople......or at least halfwaythere

Friday, June 29, 2012 @9:13:45 PM

Virgin blogger here........not really a virgin.

I'm longingly wanting to learn 5 string jazz...fast&fancy chording...Django guitar style..on banjo.

From there........the world.

I get there randomly and love it...but sometimes...ugh.

I play alone...love it...but it has it's stuckedness that sets me back. I just 'move on'.

So..do I tune the 5 as a 4 with a drone?....can I DO whatever the heck I want..and what would be EASIEST.

Do I fingerpick and frail...or use the pick?..........sigh

Turn me on banjo world...........

Katya

Sounds like you're not really sure what you want to do yet.

You can play jazz on a 5 string, I do.

You can tune the banjo however is best and easiest for you. If you want it tuned like a 4 string, go for it, leave the 5th string alone or tune it for a drone.

You can use fingerpicks or fingernails or a flatpick -- whatever is easiest for you.

There's no right or wrong, just what you find best for you.

If you're really interested in jazz, you might look at some of Pat Cloud's books/CDs -- great way to learn how to play jazz.

Thank you so much.......I guess the traditionalists scared me.
I've looked up Pat Cloud on you tube...WOW..it's all there.
I really appreciate your time and support.
Do you have a recording?
