Two months and seven lessons

Monday, July 09, 2012 @2:14:35 PM

I started more seriously not quite three months ago.  My first lesson, after struggling on my own, was in the middle of May.  I can see/hear/feel improvement but don't I wish it was faster.  There is no agenda just personal satisfaction.  I'm not really disappointed in my skill level at this point but just wish I could pick it up faster. I am only doing this for my own entertainment. I have no desire to join a band or play for anyone but myself but I want to enjoy what I am playing for myself.  So far I am learning melodies for several songs. All good, I enjoy these songs.  I've nearly mastered You are my sunshine (forward roll T,I,M,T,I,M) so I like to play that and am anxious to work on the rest on of it.   Now Georgia Railroad is challenging me.  A new roll, T,I,T,M.  I'm going to have to listen to it with lyrics a few times to get into the groove.  I also need to record myself and save that to go back and listen in a few months. Not sure how to get that done.  I can make a recording with my phone, the smarter than me kind, but I need to edit out all the false starts.  Since I know I'm recording myself I wreck frequently and early.  If I'm not recording myself I do better. I know it's all mental.  Like me. At least I can recognize when I'm grinding my teeth.

Time for a beer and a little practice before my girlfriend gets home from work and I get dinner on the table.

Later HO.

So with this new tune I'm having trouble sliding from second frett to fourth on the third string. My thumb position may not have been the greatest starting out so now training that again. So I'd like to practice all day for the rest of the week but I have to work so hopefully I'l be able to get an hour in by Sunday.
