claw hammer help?

ive have experimented with the clawhammer style, but to no avail, how does one hit the individual strings without hittin its nieghboring string?

The short answer is that it's OK to hit the string below (closer to your feet) on the downstroke. This stroke is similar to a rest stroke in classical guitar where the finger plays one string and stops (rests) on the next string. You are possibly trying to be too precise. Watch some YouTube videos or look for a local teacher. Above all let your ear guide you. |

Are you becoming interested in clawhammer? It sounds like your interest has been in three finger bluegrass or Scruggs style. I play clawhammer; really two finer uppicking, but you get to the same destination even though itis a different road. If you want help, let me know. I live in St. Thomas. Wouldn't be much help with the BG; I can do it, but not with much dexterity. |
