I live in central Illinois where I play and teach music. Father of two strange and lovely daughters who play accordion, fiddle, banjo, piano and whoknowswhatallelse. My first guitar was a Stella, for whom my youngest is partly named. Best musical experiences have included playing (very) briefly in my youth with John Hartford; dropping a prepared piano from a 120 foot crane; thumping a bass fiddle until dawn on a hardwood floor bar in Montréal while a blizzard raged outside; and learning to go into trance by playing claw-hammer banjo. I play a 1926 Tubaphone, a turquoise telecaster, an Italian two-row button accordion, a sweet D-18, a ratty old Kay string bass, a ཛ National, and a ཟ Epiphone Triumph, among other things. I believe that banjos and bicycles represent the high water mark of technology.
