A 'calabash' is a gourd historically used for carrying water and in the construction of musical instruments in many parts of the world. "Calabash at the Carrack" is the first in a planned series of Calabash events presented by poster artist/illustrator, Jamie B. Wolcott and banjo player/songwriter, Curtis Eller. The event will combine poster art, live music, theatre, and film into a four-day weekend at the lovely Carrack Modern Art Gallery in downtown Durham. The opening celebration will run from May 17-20.
The artwork of Jamie B. Wolcott will go up on May 14th. The performances will begin the evening of May 17th and run through the 20th. The artwork will come down May 24th. Jamie B. Wolcott has created posters for Emmylou Harris, John Prine, Andrew Bird, Bob Dylan, The Melvins, The Dresden Dolls, and many others. Come to the Carrack and see her posters, CD covers, and book illustrations. Jamie will be screenprinting on site, and selling poster prints and original works.
