3 or so months into this thing and unfortunately I'm not quite managing to practice every day but I am improving (I think).
I have discovered I am not so good at learning songs from tabs, but am OK at learning them from instruction videos I've found on youtube. So some instructional DVD's are in order. I'm also trying to learn songs by ear. They are by no means perfect and I still only know a few chords and a couple of licks but they sound ok.
Anyway in the interests of recording my progress I recorded a song I learned by ear. I started off with a slow version of "Will the circle be unbroken" I found on youtube, and sped it up to play alongside the Ralph Stanley recording. It's not great and for the life of my I can't figure out how to do an interesting break (of which there are 3 in Ralphs version) but I figured why not.
Quality isn't great. I had to record using a headset mic and some guy on a motorbike decided to ride past while I was doing it. Anyway, here it is:
