My Instruments:
My new banjo is Nechville's Athena. This is a greatest gift for me from banjoists and people from around the world!!! Thank you, friends, very much!!!

My first banjo's name is Musima. It was like a Gitjo (or Banjitar) before I remade it on 5-string Banjo. Now it has 5 strings but 6 tuners, so one tuner stays empty. I was playing on it for all my first recordings.

Banjo Musical Recipe Of The Uzbek Plov !

Saturday, January 21, 2012 @12:01:24 PM

Hello, my dear friends from around the world!

As you know I'm still the only one banjo player in my country. Our people don't know what is bluegrass music and how to play banjo, but I try to bring American banjo sounds in Uzbekistan. It is a long long way and at the first time it was very very hard. But now I can see that they like it!

And today I just wanted to tell you about a song that I played here some time ago.

Tashkent's bard Rashid Ahmedov found my banjo songs through the internet and he liked them and decided to write a song in country style :)). He was working about his new album and invited me as the musician to play banjo for his song. I took a part in musical project as just a musician in the first time in my life! He gave me his song named "Ballada o plove"  ((Ballad About Pilaf - English translation) and asked me to record banjo for it. I tried to compose banjo parts for his song and solo in bluegrass style and then we made record in studio with other Uzbek musicians that  he invited. It was very fun to play banjo with our Uzbek musicians and accompany for Rashid when he was singing! Because I used to sing by myself and never played when someone singing! I felt like I'm real musician and not just a singer! It was great experience and very new feelings for me!

These music videos were made by my father - Valeriy Kim and posted on his youtube channel. He works as a video operator and he likes to arrange (compose, cut, build)  videos.  He used video from our repetition before the concert, but that video was made by my mobile phone, so the quality isn't very good)) Alex was shoot me on my phone on that repetition. But you will see one of the  the best Uzbek food - pilaf (we call it "plov" and you will hear this word in the song) in this video! This song is in Russian language, because many people here speak in Russian, even most uzbeks knows Russian language as well.

I'm glad that our people will know about American banjo more soon and that you will know more about my life and my country too) I'm also glad that music is our international language!

There is the lyrics translated by me in English any how as I can, it is for you could understand the meaning of the song ))) Please forgive me if I made any mistakes or anything wrong))

But thanks so much to JanetB for correcting and editing my translation of the lyrics!

Now it seems you can understand it better! Thank you, dear Janet!kiss

The Ballad About Plov

I feel like the smoke coming from the Motherland
Is someone cooking plov?
I'm the eastern man
And I say that Uzbek plov starts with firewood!

In the yard grows the grass,
On the grass lays the wood
First you must be hewers of wood

Joyfully the fire burns,
Oil roars in a cauldron...
Friends in sweet anticipation,
Hot tea is gurgling in pialas.

That purple haze
Which does not disappoint,
Quickly envelopes our cauldron.

And now we must catch a lamb,
But for some reason he doesn't want to go into plov
He nicely lays upside down
And you can understand just without a word that he wants to live.

You, know, plov is impossible without a lamb,
But we can buy meat at the market -
That's a great idea!

Meat tumbles, fried in oil
Surrounded by the rings of onions...
Oh, how I love this fragrance!
But plov is not ready yet.

We also need carrots,
But make sure they are yellow -
That's right!

The rice proudly lays down in the cauldron...
He is the leader here, do not mind him!
Each of us gives him a honor
And everyone says a good word to him.

Plov is ready, come to the table!
We pour some vodka to each guest,
Say a toast for more fun!

Let the food will always be cooked
As much as your friends,
Because the eastern soul is generous!
