Good American lefty open back
From Big Dan on 12/1/2011 12:23:46 PM
Have any of you fine fellows tried lefty version of hand made open backs? I'm thinking about brands like Chuck Lee, Fielding, Cedar Mountain, Philips, Reiter, Ramsay, the usual suspects. I live in New Zealand and, as you can guess, you just don't see these makes in music shops. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Scott Phillips open back. Made about four years ago. Haven't looked back since. Brilliant instrument

I started looking for a new lefty open back a couple of months ago to replace my Deering. I tried Reiter, but he said he doesn't make left handed banjos. I ended up getting in touch with Mike Ramsey, and he was VERY helpful. He's working on making a left handed special right now. Can't wait! I know other makers like Chuck Lee and Kevin Enoch make lefties, but I found Mike's banjos to be the best for the money and he was great to do business with. You can reach him directly by the number on his website. Good luck on your search! I'll be sure to post some videos once I get my Special.

Thanks for your help, guys. Copo, would you be able to let me know which tunes on your hangout page are played on the Philips, and wether it's over the head or the scoop (if it's not too much trouble, of course).
Good luck with the Ramsey, FTC, sure it'll be a beautiful instrument.
