new homemade african paduka fretless
From sport on 6/5/2012 1:43:01 AM
Well phase one is done- i now have a fretless to call my own. I made it with help of a friend- including his tools! out of african Paduka wood. Harder than mahogany and redder than cherry! It is a seahorse design based on boucher found in Inspiration painting.
Now phase two- I need get comfortable playing without frets and keep the thing in tune which is not easy with wood peg tuners!
I promise a sound post later this week

Is that the natural colour of the wood? It looks very nice indeed.

Yes. I only rubbed it with three coats of Lin seed oil. Like mahogany, it gets darker with time. The saw dust form paduka is equivalent to paprika powder in its bright redness.
