For sale is a Fishman Rare Earth Pickup. I bought this a few years ago and used it both live and in my home studio. A small metal shim is taped under the bridge (or near it) and a microphone is clamped onto the coordinator rods under the shim. A wire connects this to a plug that you install on the flange so you can plug it into an amp or tuner or whatever you are using it for.
Installing this pickup is easy, the hardest part is that you have to solder three wires to a little metal clip. There are no holes to drill in your banjo and no marks or harm will come to it from this pickup. I had to unsolder the wires so that I could remove the pickup so it's all ready to install on the next person's banjo!
Much has been written on BHO about this pickup and all of the various sounds you can get by moving the shim or the microphone part around. I and others find the Rare Earth to give a pretty good acoustic sound and I have always been happy with it. I'm selling it because I don't play through an amp with my current band and so it hasn't been used in quite a while.
