SOLD For Sale: On hold Closet Queen 1974 Ome XXX Banjo Video Included
United States, Abingdon, MD, 21009
Beautiful Ome XXX banjo made in 1974 (the video says 1975 by mistake.)
Chuck Ogsbury started making banjos around 1960 under the Ode name. Chuck sold the company to Baldwin in 1966. Around 1970 Chuck got the bug to build banjos again and started the Ome company in the hills of Colorado. This one is from 1974 and is a fine example of his work.
This banjo is the XXX model. X being the lower end, scaled down banjo, XX being a medium quality, and XXX being the "fancy" banjo of the line with fine inlays and concentric rings on the back. The next step up from this banjo was the famed Juggernaut.
This XXX banjo is made of fine mahogany and has a multi-ply rim and a special no-hole style tone ring. It is also a convertible banjo in that the resonator and flange can be removed and the banjo can be played in the clawhammer style. I must say that this banjo is equally comfortable being played in both styles. It is lightweight and has a very loud sound.
Many people are really crazy about these banjos and I feel that they are very underrated. Just do a google search and you will see that they are highly favored by their owners.
This one is in mint condition--it looks unplayed, has no fretwear, and will be shipped in what I believe is the original case.
