I have an old Vega banjo that I believe was made around 1910 I was wondering if their was anyone on the forum that would know how I could find out exactly how old the banjo is and where I could find out what it is worth.
If you post pix on the Hangout, members will give you a darn good idea of value. "Exactly" how old may be hard, but if it's a Vega you can come close by checking the Mugwumps serial # list at http://www.mugwumps.com/acf_date.htm
I have posted some photos of my Vega Banjo on my homepage http://www.banjohangout.org/my/dpcross/ Thanks to Bill Rodgers and Mugwumps.com I now have an idea of when It was made but I was wondering if anyone know about what it would be worth. The pics are not to clear - sorry! so I can tell you there is some wear and it looks like one of the ears on the head was broke and repaired. Some finish is removed on the bottom of the pot and there are three holes drilled into the bottom of it. Looks like a resonator was mounted at some point. Also the tuning pegs are not original. There is also some wear an the finish on the hooks and the stretch band. Does anyone know where I can get a stretch band for an old Vega banjo? I have another rim but alas no stretch band. They are hard to find!
