Tony is one of the finest banjo pickers and set up man I've ever came across. What is he doing now ?
grich - Posted - 03/14/2012: 11:57:50
Rumor has it he got fired from FQMS
nittio - Posted - 03/14/2012: 12:05:53
Isn't he the same guy that built banjos for first quality . Wow what is going on there . All the complaints !!!!
banjoboy75 - Posted - 03/14/2012: 12:46:58
Rumor is right! Tony is no longer with (F)fqms.. Due to them saying his banjo building skills suck.. I find it kinda funny! He's the only guy who works on my instruments. I and everyone else who has seen his work knows what a quality job he does!
eralbert - Posted - 03/14/2012: 12:57:38
Maybe he didn't want to drink the Kool-Aid !!!
chickenpickin - Posted - 03/14/2012: 13:25:55
He's one great picker!! I'll say that in his behalf....

Say it ain't so . How will they ever replace him ? Wonder if he's heading for Big Joe's or maybe San Francisco. ? I think there might be a song in there somewhere.
grich - Posted - 03/14/2012: 13:38:49
I wish we had a position for him right now .... along with Ed Weber and Don Hunter

Start thinking BIG.Tell Steve it's time to expand this opretation. Send those boys to China.
KANINJACK - Posted - 03/14/2012: 14:10:33
He was down at FQMS last Monday.
grich - Posted - 03/14/2012: 17:55:37
Last Monday is a lifetime in the world of banjo builders

Again I say "Say it ain't so."

Did this really take place? I have heard nothing but great things about Tony not only from any body that has had a chance to meet him and have him do some work but also from the Sullivan boys.
I have not met Tony face to face but we have carried on some excellent dialogue via the Internet on several occasions and was looking forward to him being in my neck of the woods for a while.
KANINJACK - Posted - 03/16/2012: 02:55:04
Can't say for sure, but I do know he put a spike in my ninth last week. Murrell said he was busy with the 35. They're probably smiling down there at this speculation.

When Grich is involved, you just never know !
Wayne Holcombe - Posted - 03/16/2012: 08:18:31
Looks like someone might have to call FQMS and ask for Tony .
Forrest - Posted - 03/16/2012: 08:33:49
I'm surprised no one has done that yet Wayne.
grich - Posted - 03/16/2012: 09:29:03
We don't have to call up there because Tony called me yesterday to tell me that he was fired from FQMS
jhduncan20 - Posted - 03/16/2012: 10:04:04
Cue dramatic music
Wayne Holcombe - Posted - 03/16/2012: 10:20:02

Sound likes a great start for The G.R Banjo co. you know you would sell every one you build..
prewartb3 - Posted - 03/19/2012: 17:11:28
FQ stop building banjos? Would be cool if Tony got a job in SF.
eagleisland - Posted - 03/19/2012: 18:14:36
Leaving everything else aside, I had the privilege to jam with Tony at the Gibson OAI store in Nashville a few years back.
He's a helluva nice guy, really knows his stuff, and, far as I'm concerned, is the best banjo player I'll bet most of us never heard of before.
