If you look that cute with a Banjo who cares if you can play it or if it's a 6 string Deering. Apparently it makes no difference and I too have all of her MP3s but I tell everyone I buy them for my Daughter.
BTW Great song Tom, you should make a you tube video of it.

Cuz: She could be holding a didgeridoo with strings and I would still be unable to find fault.
Ronnie Stoneman use to use this as a stage act thing. I saw her at many festivals but once in VA I think she got on stage with her banjo hanging down about that low. She apologized to the audience, said her banjo was damaged in flight and she had to borrow Sonny Osborne's banjo. Then she proceeded to rip off a tune about 90 miles an hour. She's a sweet lady and can be very funny cause she's almost always in the mood. ;) Love that Gal.
Whenever I get out my acoustic guitar all the young folks always ask me why I play it up so high.
They're used to seeing all the rockers with their guitars dangling around their knees !!.. They're playing those one finger power chords or something but there ain't any pickin' goin' on.
Maybe Taylor will learn a tune just to show us geezers.

Ya have to play it up high... because that's where all them HIGH, lonesome chords ARE!
Proposition: Taylor Swift has done more to popularize the banjo among young people in recent years than any other performer. More even than Earl Scruggs.

One could certainly write an extensive response in analysis of this proposition. I won't.
Suffice it to say, the influence of the former is a mile wide and an foot deep, while the influence of the latter is more like a foot wide and mile deep.
I can tolerate either one, but neither one makes my socks go up and down. They each have their charms.

True, but would Taylor (and all the other country artists using the banjo today and making it popular again) be playing banjo today, had it not been for Earl Scruggs? Something to ponder.

great, so now were gonna have a bunch of kids who think their 'banjo players' then wonder why they cant make their banjo sound like 'that guy' on that bonnie and clyde movie. well kid, 1st you have too many strings, and, you'll actually have to work/practice at it! i see this fad lasting till she takes up the tuba, then, everyone will be trading in their banjos. earl is the only way!
In my humble opinion (YIKES!) Taylor Swift is a disgrace to the country world. She sounds like a whiny spoiled...skank. All her songs seem to be about some guy she was in love with, they broke up, and sings a song about them. Not meant to offend anyone who likes her music (I have to admit it is a heck of a lot better than most popular music) but in the country world, it is all about how people have done her wrong.

OMG! A country song about breaking up, or somebody done somebody wrong! Imagine that!
As for your use of the descriptive derogatory words, you might want to reconsider. It sounds immature and Rush-like.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with songs about people getting wronged, but when almost every song there is another guy, another problem, it seems like she is trying to victimize herself.
I will let everyone decide for themselves if she is a skank. Here are the songs based on guys who have "broken her heart": 1: Teardrops On My Guitar 2. Should've Said No 3. Stay Beautiful 4. Hey Stephen 5. Forever And Always 6. Mine 7. Back to December 8. Dear John 9: The Story Of Us 10: Enchanted 11: Innocent 12: Last Kiss 13: Tim Mcgraw (Not about Tim Mcgraw, but is about his song Can't Tell Me Nothin, and a similar story)
So 13 songs about real guys breaking her hear (plus more, these are just the easy ones). And almost all of them are about different guys. Seems excessive.
Trouble In Paradise When The Tingle Becomes A Chill Somebody Somewhere (Don't Know What He's Missin' Tonight) Out Of My Head And Back In My Bed I Can't Feel You Anymore What Kind Of Girl (Do You Think I Am?) Woman Of The World (Leave My World Alone) I Know How You Wanna Give Me A Lift The Other Woman Before I'm Over You Wine, Women And Song If You're Not Gone Too Long You've Just Stepped In (From Stepping Out On Me) The Home You're Tearin' Down Don't Come Home A-Drinkin' (With Lovin' On Your Mind) Fist City Your Squaw Is On The Warpath I've Got A Picture Of Us On My Mind To Make A Man (Feel Like A Man) She's Got You Why Can't He Be You Lyin', Cheatin', Woman Chasin', Honky Tonkin', Whiskey Drinkin' You Heart Don't Do This To Me Making Love From Memory Cheatin' On A Cheater Somebody Led Me Away After The Fire Is Gone Lead Me On
Do you like Hank Williams? Shall we count his "broken heart" songs?
I'm not sure you realize how offensive the word is you used to describe this young woman. You should know that it is highly objectionable, and if used by my son would result in some time behind the woodshed. And if used in reference to my daughter, would likely result in serious injury -- from her (second degree black-belt.)
Your public behavior is admittedly not my responsibility, so consider this a courtesy discussion. But you might want to discuss it with your momma or whatever mother-figure is available. Here's the urban dictionary definition to aid the discussion: skank: Derogatory term for a (usually younger) female, implying trashiness or tackiness, lower-class status, poor hygiene, flakiness, and a scrawny, pockmarked sort of ugliness. May also imply promiscuity, but not necessarily. Can apply to any race, but most commonly used to describe white trash.
The poor girl is probably sitting at home right now wondering where her next meal is coming from, reading the BHO post, and crying her eyes out over all this negative publicity she is getting.
Besides, what would you EXPECT a teenage girl to write about, besides relationships? Whether black holes produce thermal radiation? What to do about a nuclear Iran? Whether spacetime supersymmetry is realized in nature? Whether the Civil War was really the "second American Revolution?"
