Here’s some good banjo news, at least for those banjo slingers with an Old Time interest near Winchester VA:
Adam Hurt and David McLaughlin will be hosting a banjo weekend -- March 4, 5, and 6 -- at the Nancy Shepherd House Inn B&B in Winchester VA, plus a Saturday evening concert with Beth Hartness (guest appearance by David McLaughlin). Enrollment is for intermediate to advanced banjo players and will be capped at ten students at $200.00 per student for the whole weekend, plus lodging and meals. Adam's program might include the following subjects:
Exploring alternate tunings Mastering the mechanics of tone The "cluck" and other rhythmic space-fillers Developing efficient right- and left-hand action How to play along in jam sessions on unfamiliar tunes Learning tunes from a fiddler Playing well with a fiddler Dealing with syncopation Repertoire-building will be a component of the workshop
Adam’s website bio has recently been updated at adamhurt.com/bio.html I have hosted Adam’s workshops at my home in Arlington VA and they are usually quick sellouts and memorable musical events.
Here is a link to an interview with David, plus a brief biography. He is a very interesting and thoughtful guy, and a fantastic musician on many instruments including banjo: mandozine.com/resources/CGOW/m...ghlin.php
And of course Adam was the subject of a featured article in this month’s Banjo Newsletter.
