carrots are good fer tha eyes, i don't eat enough of them, even though I like 'em

1four5 - Posted - 07/13/2011:  14:14:46

I don't see anything ugly about that horse...

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 07/13/2011:  17:18:18

His shoulder is way too straight and his neck ties in too high into it. I'd guess he has a really short choppy stride. I'm also not sure about his pasterns. The slope to them looks okay but something about them doesn't look quite right.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 07/13/2011:  17:18:39

Nice butt, though.

1four5 - Posted - 07/13/2011:  17:36:52

If a pasturn is something that used to look great, but doesn't anymore, then my whole body is made up of them. Like pastpecks, pastbuns, pastabs, and pastbiceps.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/14/2011:  04:20:57

Now that was funny Dean!

dat - Posted - 07/14/2011:  05:30:50

now it's the man boobs huh?

OM45GE - Posted - 07/14/2011:  05:31:54

If we can't call them rock hard pecs, I guess man boobs will have to do.

dat - Posted - 07/14/2011:  06:46:37

Having man boobs and being able to get around (kinda) healthy is better than not having man boobs and not being able to get around

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 07/14/2011:  07:59:43

My kitty, Mr. Quimby, needs a man-bra.

dat - Posted - 07/14/2011:  09:06:58

maby you can take him for a walk a couple of times a day

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 07/14/2011:  09:34:59

If I could walk myself, I might....

Actually he's down to about 17 1/2 pounds. I weighed him last night. I'm going to have to increase his food soon to a maintenance level.

1four5 - Posted - 07/14/2011:  10:08:31

We started rationing our cat food when our male started looking like a beach ball with legs. I think he's down to about 8 pounds or so now. He even eats dog food if I'm not watching.

next month it'll get hot

1four5 - Posted - 07/14/2011:  16:05:11

We just hit our 20th day of 100+

OM45GE - Posted - 07/15/2011:  05:04:28

It was 58 this morning but has shot up to 65 in the last hour or so.

dat - Posted - 07/15/2011:  05:34:42

I would love some 65 about now, I think the low last night was 77, it'll be back up to 100 or so again here pretty quick

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 07/15/2011:  05:53:55

We've got gorgeous weather here right now. Upper 80s and low humidity for the next like three or four days. I think early part of next week the humidity is going to go back up but it's still not going to get too hot. Considering how the summer started out (super hot and icky), this is phenomenal DC weather.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/15/2011:  05:58:01

It is nice to get a break from the steam heat.

dat - Posted - 07/15/2011:  07:12:51

we usually get our first break from the 100 degree 70% humidity steam heat about the end of September

1four5 - Posted - 07/15/2011:  07:29:27

Yep same for Kansas. It's usually pretty nice for about three days at the end of September, then it gets cold and rainy until March.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/15/2011:  10:29:57

We've got central air but I usually don't use it more than a couple of weeks a year. On the other hand, we do have blizzards and the occasional hurricane.

1four5 - Posted - 07/15/2011:  10:36:41

A blizzard would be nice right now

dat - Posted - 07/15/2011:  10:46:48

I think we got almost an inch of snow about two or three years ago

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 07/15/2011:  12:29:33

I think I would be very sad if I didn't get snow every year.

dat - Posted - 07/15/2011:  12:39:37

I think it would be nice to get a little snow every year, we have to make a road trip to Arkansas and hope we time it right

1four5 - Posted - 07/15/2011:  14:11:30

I grew up in Michigan where it snowed in October and didn't quit until April. Man I miss it.

dat - Posted - 07/15/2011:  14:19:41

hey, my sisters second husband is from Michigan, his name is Curtis, Ya'll have bound to know each other, he is probably about 48 or 49approve

OM45GE - Posted - 07/15/2011:  16:43:19

I've been in Michigan a few times. We must have met!

1four5 - Posted - 07/15/2011:  17:10:03

If you ever went through Holland/Grand Rapids, I'm sure we crossed paths. I left in 79, and never went back.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 07/16/2011:  07:50:02

I grew up just south of Michigan, in South Bend, IN. Been to Holland and through Grand Rapids on many occasions.

1four5 - Posted - 07/16/2011:  08:10:19

I think I went through South Bend on my way out of Michigan. I was headed for Tulsa. Man that was a party town. I could live in Tulsa again. I remember going to Chicago several times as a kid, we would drive through Gary IN... man that town was STINKY! We would roll the windows up.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 07/16/2011:  10:51:41

Poor Gary. It's one of those cities that will always have a bad rep.

1four5 - Posted - 07/16/2011:  12:23:57

Have they cleaned it up?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 07/17/2011:  17:37:54

Not that I know of.

1four5 - Posted - 07/17/2011:  19:30:42

we just had our 24th day of 100+ temps...

dat - Posted - 07/18/2011:  05:44:10

and it isn't even august yet

1four5 - Posted - 07/18/2011:  07:28:33

August is usually our hottest month. Not sure how it can get any hotter. There's always a silver lining,,, my grass died so I don't have to mow :)

dat - Posted - 07/18/2011:  08:29:58

believe it or not, we've only had to mow 5 or 6 times this year, even then it wasn't mowing the whole yard, it was just hitting the high spots where the bahia grass is, the rest of the yard this year is just stirring up dirt

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 07/18/2011:  09:15:51

I bought some new plants. The one I can see from my window is doing really well so I haven't watered them. I discovered this weekend that one of the others has died and a couple of them didn't look real happy.

dat - Posted - 07/18/2011:  09:57:46

a small amount of water on a semi regular basis helps those plants a lot

1four5 - Posted - 07/18/2011:  10:27:07

water is getting rationed around here

dat - Posted - 07/18/2011:  10:51:36

here too, the lake is pretty dry, they have a choice, stop generating electricity, or have a dry lake and no water to drink.

I've lived here for 31 years, and this is the first time I can remember being able to walk across the Arkansas river... and not get your shoes wet. It's getting scary actually. The crops and livestock and rivers... and even the bugs are all dying if they are not already dead.

dat - Posted - 07/18/2011:  13:08:49

I think this year is the first time we've ever been in the D4

drought.unl.edu/dm/monitor.html

OM45GE - Posted - 07/18/2011:  13:35:11

That definitely doesn't sound good Dean.

1four5 - Posted - 07/18/2011:  16:03:29

They are talking on the news today about shutting down the public pools and closing the car washes. We are right on the edge of the D3-D4 on that drought map. No relief in sight...

OM45GE - Posted - 07/19/2011:  03:53:03

I just saw on the weather this morning that we have broken almost 2,000 temperature records across the country already this summer. Some areas have had way above average rainfall whilst others are getting severe droughts. The weather sure does seem extreme.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 07/19/2011:  05:41:58

They interviewed a 22 year old auto mechanic from Texas on the news today. He was saying it's getting to a point where people don't even have the energy to stop and say Hi to their neighbors. It's so hot, they just go about their business and go home.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/19/2011:  06:35:03

I spent some time in Phoenix a few years ago during a heat wave there. I don't care what they say about "dry heat" - 110 F is HOT!
