I just started learning Kristin Scott Benson's tune Greencastle Hornpipe and wonder if anyone else has tackled this tune. I am capoing up the 5th string to A, then just G tuning and it seems to lay out pretty well that way. Wonder if anyone out there has seen her play it, if that's how she does it. Thanks.

Hey Mike, For me, it was a toss up havin my G or A note open. After accessing how FAR I wanted to stretch, I found I prefer havin an open G for my needed scale notes let the 1st and 2nd do double duty for handlin the A ... Very cool tune, and can be played a couple diff ways. (7th or 2-3-4) One flows better than the other for me. I can get through it but not up to speed yet. Here's a mystery maybe you can answer. HOW is she playin that low octave C#(last note before the resolve at the end???) . (maybe its a six string??? ) Its a good workout , you'll enjoy it! Id be curious how you settle on playin it. KIDD

She told me that she actually recorded that in D tuning with the 5th sting spiked at A.

so far I've been working it out with the 5th string to A. But I can see how it would work out well in regular G. It just sounded like the 5th string at the 7th fret. I'm still working it out. I tend to vacillate between learning it at speed as I hear it, then slowing it way down and learning it note for note. Not sure I caught that low C# will have to give another listen. thanks for the comments
