Well we've reached the finishing stage for the neck. The fretting, binding, and final shaping have been accomplished and now it's time for some color and lacquer. Take a moment and click the link below and you can take a look see at the neck before finish.

I'm not so sure about figured walnut. While I like pretty walnut, it's been shown in rifle stocks to move and move a lot in different weather conditions. For a stable rifle stock, when you couldn't get anything else, the rule was to use heavy straight grained wood only, bench rest stocks, Winchester model 52s and remington model 40s featured heavy, straight grained, ugly sticks ..... but man could they ever shoot. It seems to me that the same logic would apply to a banjo neck. After-all a banjo neck is a relatively long, relatively thin, relatively high stressed piece of wood. Nice straight grained walnut seems like the way to go. It's still going to be an attractive piece. ........ I love those inlays.

Latest photos on Sullivan Banjos site show neck and resonator done and off for finish work. Very nice looking set.
