It's called, "Banjo Spirits" and features Don Stover and Stephen Wade. It's wonderful viewing although be forewarned: it takes a while to load: http://www.folkstreams.net/film,183

Great, thanks. I really enjoy listening to Don and watching him play and Stephen Wade adds a lot to the entire clip.

I like the tune it starts off with. Does anyone what it's called?

That's one of Don's own tunes, Black Diamond.

Wow, if "Banjo Spirits" doesn't capture my/our fascination with the banjo, I'm not sure what does!

Wonderful. Thanks

Great video! Did you notice how wide the neck was on Don's custom made banjo?

I never saw this before, thanks for posting. I've played in festivals where Don performed. He was always one of my favorites. He sure didn't let that disease get him down. He performed right to the end. He was one of the early pioneers, I remember hearing him in the '50's with different bands. He spent a lot of time in the Boston area with the Lily Bros.

Thats a great one Julio--thanks for posting it. I had almost forgotten about Don Stover...he's a gem!

I have something to confess;
From Don's photo's that I have seen of Don looking so serious, I kind of made a judgement that he did not look like a very friendly guy, but after watching that clip of a guy who just loves the banjo and takes lifes lumps with a smile.
I feel like a dummy at my age still judging books by their covers, maybe I can learn from Don's wisdom.

Guaranteed that I can!

Really a wonderful clip. Thanks for posting it. I've always liked Don's playing a great deal and now know that he was a really great man as well.

I enjoyed seeing that video on Don Stover..thanks Julio..

That's a keeper. I downloaded it with the Ant downloader/player. I'll go back and watch it next time I'm feeling low... especially the part where Don talks about his bout with a brain tumor. That was really inspirational. Well, the banjo playing was too! I never knew knew he played claw-hammer as well as 3-finger. I was not familiar with Stephen Wade. He was an interesting contrast to Don, and such a philosopher at heart.

Thanks for posting that!

Added 'Black Diamond' to my list of songs to learn. Really interesting video clip. Thanks

Just fantastic. Stover was one of my main inspirations and I always thought that he was one of the leaders of the progressive sound who doesn't get enough attention. Loved the video. Thanks!
