I just moved to Virginia after living out west for many years. Out west it was always dry and my instruments remained stable.
I just took my guitar off the hanger the other day for the first time in about a month. Ugh all the strings were buzzing... the local luthier told me it was due to the swing in humidity from summer to winter, and that I had better humidify the room I keep my instruments in.
I like to keep my instruments hanging on the wall rather than in the case. Have any of you had similar issues? What sort of humidifier do you recommend for a small room (affordable). Thanks.

There is a bunch of one room humidifiers you can buy. Holmes makes some good ones.
In my house here in Michigan I have a humidifier system hooked in at the furnace that supply's the whole house.
Or if you heat with a wood stove just put a bucket of water on top , that works great.
