Hey Nathan:
I saw the clips, and I loved them. I'm ready to buy the DVD, but I don't have (or want) a PayPal account. Do I have another option for purchasing this fine DVD?
Tony

Tony
That's a REALLY good question!
I'm going to drop Mr Davis a line...
BTW that first comment is from Joan Bender, who is a damn fine jazz singer. She happens to be a neighbor of mine! Check her out at:

Hey, thanks for all the nice words. I think this is the best example of what I like about tenor banjo that I've done. Please stick with Conal until he gets things in order on the website. Thanks again. Eddy "The Manhattan Minstrel"

Wow! what a treat!
Greenmeat - Posted - 02/07/2010: 14:44:08
Conal Fowkes should have the paypal set up this week. If you get a chance later in the week, please check back with the website. I would appreciate any comment that you may have about the DVD or the videos. Thanks Eddy

What is that little thing hanging over the top of the banjo? It looks like it might hold a small mic or maybe it is an end bit of the strap...

A pick holder. When you drop your pick into the dark void of some seamy dive, you don't have to crawl around on the sticky floor -- feeling around for it. Another is always ready. (But I see Eddy's is empty... Uh oh... Hope he brought his rubber gloves...) Best- Ed Britt

Wow, great banjo piano duo.
Eddy's banjo is beautiful, would anybody know what is the bar/metal at the 17 -18 fret of his banjo? Is it a pickup?
Greenmeat - Posted - 02/08/2010: 21:43:46
Well, Ed is quite right. I only use it to hold the pick I am currently playing. As for the metal thing at the top of the neck -- It is a hinge. This is my travel banjo and the neck folds over the pot for traveling. I put a capo on the first fret to keep the strings in place at the nut. Then the banjo is held together by the outside lag bolt. The shell has been cut into to meet the hole for the lag bolt, so when I undo the wing nut that tightens the lag bolt -- the lag bolt passes out of the shell and allows the neck to hinge up over the head. It's very very simple, but the hinge is very difficult to get fastened in the right spot between the neck and the hoop. I've been traveling with it for the last three years. Before that I had and still have two 11" head OME's that the neck comes completely out of for traveling. I would be interested in selling those, but they are worth a lot of money, since they are both very fancy banjos. One is gold engraved and the other is black chrome engraved -- both are 19 fret instruments. How for any questions, since I've confused myself. Eddy Davis

Eddy D.,
I´ve been waiting for a CD-/DVD-release like this to pop up - thanks for the music, your interpretations of it, the fantastic project and now also the recording.
As soon as PayPal pops up at the web site - I´ll press enter - LOL!
To me this DVD is a "must-own" - I´m very much looking forward recieving and enjoying it.
Plus thanks again for putting up your many fine recordings at YouTube.
Kindly regards

#3 is marked "sold" because I bought it two days ago, thanks to a tip from Nathan. Eddy: At your tender age as you gain more fame and exposure thru BHO, I predict an upsurge in the popularity of big pot openback 17 fret tenors with guitar-style tuners.

Nobody has asked me what the white string is that runs from my armrest to the bridge on my banjo. Eddy
argus1 - Posted - 02/10/2010: 20:53:18
Hey Eddy - what's that white string that runs from your armrest to the bridge?

PayPal is now running on davisfowkes.com/
I pressed my enter-buttton a few minutes ago!
Only problem - I´ll have to buy a new costly BlueRay/DVD-player very soon - I have recently sold my previous player. LOL!
Polle
PS! I wonder - which year was the Barcelona tour/recording? I can´t find any infos about this - for now.
Polle Flaunoe - Posted - 02/11/2010: 00:32:55
Eddy D.,
I guess, that the white string is either
- a security device, that prevents your bridge falling to the ground - in case, that you by accident brakes all of your strings.
- a cord for a transducer/pick-up - mounted under or in your bridge.
Kindly regards
Polle

Eddie is the true master of modern tenor banjo playing for me, I told it many times but will repeat once more: simply the best!!!

Paolo, quote: Eddie is the true master of modern tenor banjo playing for me, I told it many times but will repeat once more: simply the best!!!
Absolutely - plus he´s a really great singer, composer, arranger etc. etc.!!!!!!! Every tenor player should own a copy of the Barcelona DVD - I´m looking forward recieving mine shortly! LOL! But - every tenor player should also be aware, that there are a few equally important tenor masters out there! First of all - Don Vappie and Buddy Wachter! If you take these three guys - their very different ways of playing - their very different music styles etc. - you´ll get a fantastic picture of todays possibilities for the tenor banjo with its original tenor tuning. Regards Polle

Thanks Nathan for posting those great clips.
Eddy, your playing is just mind blowing. What an inspiration to us relative newbies. Many thanks also for your help and kind words in my posts.
I will be buying a copy of the DVD also as soon as I get paid at the end of the month.
All the best
Richard

Hi Polle you are right, Don Vappie is a great guy and I have a great respect for the Maestro Buddy Wachter (but I heard him more on plectrum than on tenor), but Eddie is still my favourite, probably because he is so relaxed and undertstated, it seems to me that he has nothing to show or to demostrate when he's playing: just get fun and make great Jazz music... and his playing is so personal!

Ok, Ed is sort of right about the string from my armrest to the bridge. As I had mentioned earlier that banjo folds for traveling, so when I undue the thumb screw and fold the neck over the head the bridge just hangs loose and doesn't fall off and get lost.
I would like to thank you guys for your wonderfully embarrassing words about my playing and me personally! I've always tried to relax and play in the moment and hope that the music comes out in some entertaining form that resembles some non composed arrangement. I've always loved to play with other great musicians that play in the moment, therefore everything is always new. Don't get me wrong I've always love to hear (and write) Classical music and to hear a highly arranged virtuoso now and then is fine by me. I've just never been able to remember that much and try to play at the same time. I should hire Polle and Paolo for my publicity agents. Once again thanks to all you kind people. Eddy "The Manhattan Minstrel"
Compass56 - Posted - 02/12/2010: 15:35:11
Eddy, Conal emailed me today to tell me that my copy of your DVD is on its way. Between your great YouTube stuff, Wild Man Blues, and this DVD, I have a nice little treasure chest of your playing to watch and enjoy. I also have a nice documentary that features Mr. Vappie and his fine tenor playing.
Now if Cynthia will put our her own DVD, I'll have video on my three favorite 4-stringers.
Tony
Greenmeat - Posted - 02/13/2010: 19:12:59
Hey Tony and Nathan, How much did Marc Fields with the documentary film on the banjo film of Cynthia at Smalls Jazz Club? Maybe there is enough left over for a DVD? Eddy

Eddy D.,
I´ve noticed via Jerry´s web site, that you´re touring Europe once again next month.
jerryzigmont.com/Jerry_Zigmont...dule.html
If possible I´ll pop up in Hamburg - that´s the location nearest to my home in DK - I would like experiencing you and Conal (plus the rest of the gang) live.
If not possible (I´m disabled due to severe back problems) I´ll still have the DVD (arriving next week) - I´ll put it on an extra time and pretent, that I´m present at one of your concerts over here - LOL!
Do have a nice tour!
Kindly regards
Polle
PS! I´ve also noticed, that you this year will go into the 70s - how about a Big Birthday Concert - and of course a video recording for your fans to purchase?

I got my copy of the DVD yesterday and watch it a couple of times last night. Wow! What beautiful music these two men make together. So far, my favorite selection from the DVD is "Beware My Foolish Heart." My first exposure to that tune came many years ago when I heard it on a CD called Joni James Sings the Music of Loesser and Young. I have heard countless versions of it since then. One my favorites is the one on the Bill Evans/Tony Bennett duet CD. The version on this DVD is as lovely as any version I've heard.
RUBY2 - Posted - 02/25/2010: 08:28:42
Well that's another copy sold! Just put my order in for the DVD too. Yipeeeee. Can't wait. Cheers Richard
Compass56 - Posted - 02/25/2010: 11:30:16
Richard, you'll love it. My fave is still "My Foolish Heart," but "I Fall in Love Too Easily" is coming up fast.
Paolo, your comment about Eddy's "relaxed and understated" style is right on the money. He's my favorite tenor man of all time with the late, great Narvin Kimbell coming in 2nd. (Vappie is way up there too.) On plectrum, it all begins and ends with Cynthia's playing for me. To my ears, her music is the very essence of Jazz
NYCJazz - Posted - 02/25/2010: 19:36:32
Amen to everything you said, Tony!
The DVD is a delight. Conal is wonderful talent.
