Yep, pretty interesting. Looks like it has square nuts on the j-hooks and a decorative ball on the threaded ends of the hooks...... I've never seen that before. There are some details on that banjo that look like Buckbee.

When I first looked at this yesterday, it had a photo of a different pot. That photo was removed and the one there now replaced it. Strange... I don't see anything that looks F&C on this banjo at all. The star motif is reminiscent, but nothing else. The square nuts should prolly join the ball end nuts, but the head is pulled way down over the rim. Mighty pretty though....

Early banjos would sometimes have clothing protection caps screwed on to the ends of the hooks. They do not necessarily have to be one piece.

Looks pretty much like an early F&C to me.

Looking back at Hank Schwartz's site, that neck look very similar to an early Fairbanks (pre-1880)neck, esp. the undercut at the heel, and at the 5th string indent. He also shows some with round bracket shoes and the same 2-piece tension nuts. The dowel stamp looks right, so it could be an early F&C with a leftover early Fairbanks neck. I rim still puzzles me, though. the first photo the seller showed, had geometric marquetry on the rim, like early F&Cs, but I've not seen a floral motif on a F&C. But it could be, for all I really know . Several bidders apparently also think it looks right!
