I was channel surfing and came across Esteban pitching his sparkly black-rinestone encrusted guitar for only $139.95. Limited edition. This price includes a shiny croco-embossed case, strings, strap, polishing cloth, picks and 10 instructional DVDs.
I'm gonna trade in my HD-28 and git me one of those beauties.
Anybody ever seen or played one of them? I dare you to show up a jam toting that thing.
There's a distinct similarity between Esteban and Zorro that I'm seeing here. I say "seeing" because I'm got the mute so I can't hear the bloody thing!!

Oh yeah, I've seen him hocking those things before, seems like he's on TV about once a month selling these wonderful "limited edition" instruments. Looks like the fretboard is some sort of composite, I'm sure that sounds just great, probably the body is made of the same stuff, they do look like plastic to me, and from the little bit I heard on TV while flipping through channels, they sound plastic. I believe I'll hold on to my D-18 and let someone else have the pleasure of owning one of Esteban's fine "limited edition" guitars.

HD-28, D-18, still no rhinestones! Just think 10 instructional DVD discs, a polishing cloth, and the picks, man the picks. Wait a minute, if he gives you picks, why does he have those big long nails? Is this guy tryin' to pull a fast one on me?

What about the hat, do ya get one of them hats, well do ya?? The hat, hat, hat, that's what I wanna know about the hat.

"This guitar shines with the true spirit of Christmas!"
Maybe if you're planning on waking up Christmas morning at the Bunny Ranch, I guess.

Yeah. The hat. Makes him look like a fine figure of a man, don't it?

I caught just a few minutes of the sales pitch. HDTV is great - I could clearly see a rectangular "Flint Hill" logo on his ring. A mystery solved me thinks.

Estabon's kinda like Kevin Trudeau, fascinating late-night, smarmy huckster and mogul, wearing a Zorro costume.
I know that he is supposed to be the "chosen one" ... Segovia's right-hand man, and Segovia was a hard task master. But hawking guitars destined to slice your fingers to ribbons, as a way of toughening those fingertips, might be going a bit far.
I've heard that his guitars make a great home for the squirrels, if you hang it high from a tall branch by the headstock. Maybe think of putting some sunflower seeds in there.

Well, he ain't no Tony Rice no matter what kind of hat he wears.

No, he's no Tony Rice and I'll never buy his junk. But if Tony Rice ever wound up on Home Shopping Network selling snake oil .. i'd consider buying.

Ever tried to play one of these things?? If Gregory made a squared eel guitar I am sure it would be much better!!
Sterling grass - Posted - 11/21/2009: 13:26:12

He's on again!
I heard them say HSN alone has moved over one million of these packages.....you've got to wonder how much this guy's worth personally. I'm guessing he owns more than own of those hats.

If the client orders a Squared Eel 6-string, the client will receive one. I've got one of those hats, too! AND a fencing foil. Maybe he & I could do a Zorro Boys music video. Tell his people to call my people.

The folks over at acoustic guitar forum had a LONG running thread for about a year on an Esteban that they shipped around to each other, filming themselves playing it in various entertaining scenarios, and posting the footage. That thread seems to have been deleted--presumably, it got out of hand (easily done, considering...) Here's the latest manifestation: http://www.acousticguitar.com/ubbcg...29645#000000

I found one (pre glossy black model) in a yard sale a couple of years ago for 7 bucks. They're just the thing to practice your luthier skills on. Here's how it turned out:

I never had heard of him until now. I guess I need to watch more T.V.
mrbook - Posted - 11/22/2009: 05:50:50
I have been enthralled by him ever since I first saw him on TV around 3:30 one morning. He's too cool in the Zorro outfit, and his sidekick is so enthusiastic. A friend of mine bought a couple of his guitars (why the second, I don't know), and I can't say anything good about them, except that they probably are made of real wood as he says. Nevertheless, I can't stop watching when I see him on TV.

Ennie, meanie, minnie, moe, which is Mike I just gotta know. Slim and trim, with a mustache so fine, or sideburns in a perfectly straight line. It's a mystery only time can assuage, one is a crook the other a knave!

I have not seen this infomerrcial for some time, but I always found it funny. I especially liked the woman who interviewed him. She was drooling all over him, like me sitting with Earl.

 Thanks for the doggerel!
