I need a small solenoid with about a 1" plunger/push, that will run on as small of battery as possible. Any ideas or where to look?
Thanks, Brad

look in the wrecking yards for car automatic loor lock actuators, they have about an inch travel they are made for 12 volts but will work on a 9 volt battery

That would be great if a 9v battery will operate the solenoid. I need it to push a small hi-hat cymbal down the 1/4 rod against a very lightweight spring so it will bang into the lower cymbal, then release when I release the switching device. For a hi-tech Teufelsgeige. Ok, a devil's fiddle!
Another one of my "hair-brained" ideas.

Ok look in the steering column of a ford for the "automatic transmission you, must push brake to shift out of park" solenoid. It is about the size of a C battery, with about a 1/2 to 1" plunger travel. Still a 12V system, but may take less to trigger it.

Old door bell mechanisms? Most of them were low voltage - weren't they?

I forgot about automotive solenoids. Mazda 626 1988-92 w/auto trans. shift interlock solenoid in the console.

Here is a scarey thought. Nearly everything I know I learned from you'all and my barber.
Thanks, Brad

Brad, I used to deal with these guys when I was big into R/C. They are in Winfield. If they don't have what you want, the will build it for you. They are big time into robotics. http://www.servocity.com/
