I got this at the store in a case with a Vega banjo and can’t find any information on it. I plan on putting in on eBay but can’t locate any information at all. Any ideas:

Thanks,

Looks like one of the '50s & '60s Grover banjo mutes.

It turns out to be an Elton Tone Regulator.

I have listed it on eBay here if anyone is interested: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...RK:MESELX:IT Only ONE PENNY and no reserve.

I am cleaning out my shop.

One came on my mid-60s Harmony. No extra charge. But nobody in the music store could tell me what it was for. It wasn't until long after I let the banjo go I learned it was a mute

I started playing banjo in the early '50's and used one of those on a rather plain Gretsch 5-string with a resonator. With the newly invented plastic head it actually sounded pretty good. I used to set it about 3/4" from the bridge. It gave the banjo a nice crack and seemed to hold down the overtones.

It would serve as a mute if you put it closer to the bridge. Someone should put them on the market now. I can't recall what ever happened to mine?? Maybe I'll find it someday??
