My instructor told me about this site and said it was really useful. Boy, was he right. Loads of fun.
My question is this: Are there tunes in the media archives a beginner can play along with and how do I find them? As a beginner my abilities are, shall we say, untapped. If possible I would like to pull up a tune and start a loop where I can practice my hand positions and rhythm/beats. A simple tune I can repeat mindlessly for hours on end is what I'm looking for. It would be nice to have the basic tuning and clawhammer tabs or music to go with it, too.
Thanks in advance.

Theres a fiddle hangout too, and some of the songs in their jukebox can be cool to play to.
Some of them are even pretty slow tempo.
EDIT: Oh and thanks for those backing tracks. Those are great.

Download Rocket Science Banjo - which includes about 40 tabs for banjo with chords and the abiity to play on your computer's built in MIDI. You can set the tune to play at any speed you like and play along. At least half the tunes also have words (it is easier to remember melodies with words) and you can sing them too. MIDI will literally play the tune unti your computer stops working if you like. Everything is free. The 40 songs and tunes, the videos and about 120 pages of banjo instruction. Don't forget to go to the Tabledit site and download the free TEFViewer too. It is all at the URL below
http://www.rocketsciencebanjo.com Rocket Science Banjo - Advanced Clawhammer Techniques for beginners and long time players alike. Plus videos and 25-40 EZ Clawhammer Tunes.
