I've seen those cool little Korg tuners that are oval and can be mounted to the hooks on the banjo. I can't seem to find anyone who sells them. I've seen ones that clip onto the head but not the kind that can be mounted.

Does anyone know who sells them? I've checked FQM and JDMC.

Brian; I had one of those. If you want to buy the piece to attach to the banjo hooks, go to Gryphon Instruments in Palo Alto Ca. As I said I HAD one. I could not get a reading on 2 of my strings and the Korg did not have a built in light so it was useless at night. Thought I'd let you know. Bob

Those Korgs are no longer made, though you might find one around. The Gryphon clip does not fit the new Korgs though. Whether there'll be enough demand for Frank to design and make one for the new Korg remains a question.

Hmm. May have to stick with my Intelli-touch. It's been giving me fits lately though.

You may want check out the Wittman Mini Chromatic Tuner, seems to be somethng like the Korg you mentioned. Have never tried it, so I can't tell if it's any good, though.

I use one of those Intelli IMT 500 tuners that looks like this - - - - - > > >

It does a SUPERB job if you clip it through the flange, so that the clips are both inside and outside of the resonator.
It picks up all the "vibes" needed to tune the banjo, and is out of sight from any audience you might have.
I never did like the tuner on the peghead look, and this works perfectly and is easily referenced when you need it.

My avatar is a pic of me with the tuner on (green light glowing there where the neck meets the body of the banjo),
and it's both out of the way and out of sight, and it fits right there when the banjo is in it's case also.
The tuner clipping onto the resonator works just as well (if not better) than clipping it to the peghead.
I've not seen those that mount onto the hooks, so I don't know about them. This works just fine though.

P.S. - - - normally one wouldn't see the tuner on the banjo there.
I had it lit and in that position for the sake of the picture. Normally it would be invisible, folded into the banjo.
It would be visible to me (looking down on it), but to no one else even if it was on and glowing.

I used to mount my Intelli by taking the clamp part off and using a rubber band to secure it to the hooks. It used to work great but even after changing batteries it's not acting quite right.

I do mine like Brian, and it works fine*. An extra advantage is that people don't ask to borrow it.
* Well, it's not super-accurate. I can hear differences in strings that it says are the same.

Thats a great idea, dmiller. I am gonna go try that tonight.

The new Korg AW2G can be mounted in a flange hole between the flange and the resonator. But I prefer to have it on the headstock.

I find that the Korg AW2G has a much faster response than the Intelli 500 and I did not like the rattling buttons on the Intelli. The Korg is also much smaller.

I tried clamping the Intelli tuner like dmillers..but could not get it to work right. I put one side of the clamp through the flange..and the other on the outside of the resonater, right? Too bad..because it is a great location.
