One of the many dangers of banjo is the use of heavy strings. While the news does not make a very big deal out of the problem, many of our number have been maimed and killed by Collapsing Banjo Syndrome. WE have nobody but our selves to blame.
How many times has an unsuspecting banjo player woulnd up heavy string like the Sands? Just as they get flat of a proper G tuning, KEEEEEERRRWHHHHAAAACCCKK! the banjo collapses at the neck, the peg head hits the player and the tuning stems rip through the face. The player bleeds out and dies a terrible death with nobody interested in how he or she died.
My advice is to eschew heavy strings, especially if you are a family man with a wife and kids to feed. We are headed for the winter and it is an awful time to be out on the streets.
BCS. . . Let's not be afraid to talk about it
GHS. . .Let's not be afraid to put them on our banjos.
