Hello all,

It is with sadness that I report that my father passed on last evening. He died of a lung disease.

He was born on August 23, 1946 in Cumberland, MD. After his high school graduation, he attended the Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades in Media, PA. From 1967 to 1970, we was a first class petty officer, ship fitter in the Navy. He spent most of his time on the USS Niagra Falls.

After the navy, he was a self-employed contractor. For his 40th birthday, he bought himself an airplane and spent 4 years restoring it. Once others saw his work, they wanted him to restore theirs and his new business was started. I believe that he completely restored 15 classic aircraft. His work was of such high quality that he won the Grand Champion, Charles Lindberg Memorial Trophy at Oshkosh, WI.

He was diagnosed with this disease less than a year ago. I knew that he wouldn't be around too much longer, but I didn't think it would be last night. He was a devoted father and grandfather and will be missed greatly.

The RB 800 in my avatar was his. He bought it new in '68. Along with that, he gave me a 67 martin d12-35 and a 68 Gibson j50D 6 string.

I went through some of his things today, but that process will take some time.

He was not perfect, but none of us are. I will miss him.

Erik

I am very sorry for your deep loss Erik. I lost my father in 1994, it's been 15 years since I've held my best friend's hand, or kissed his cheek, or broken something of his by mistake. No, none of us are perfect...our dad's are though!

Erik, I can understand how you're feeling right about now. I lost my dad when he was the same age as yours. That was 35 years ago and it's still the biggest loss of my life so far. I sure have missed him.
God bless you and your family.

I know what you're feeling now, having lost my dad at the same age in his life. He was also a Petty Office First Class, serving in the pacific during WW2.

All the best to you and your family.

Erik, I'm so sorry to hear you lost your father. I have a brother the same age as your father. Hold on to all the special memories that you have. My brother was in the navy during the same time as your father and he was a pipe fitter on the USS Mount Katmai. My wife and I will be praying for you and your family if that's not a problem for you. Take care.

My own dad passed away suddenly on Christmas morning, 1991. I feel for your loss.

I hope you will find that your dad lives in your heart and the love you have for him. That will never go away and you can always go there and find him, at least, that's been my experience.

My condolences to you and your family.

as I found out first hand last month - losing your father is a sad, sad thing. And the more wonderful a person he was, the harder it is to lose him. Your father sounds like he, too, was a wonderful man. My heart goes out to you.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. You have my dondolensces. From what you wrote, it looks like your father was a very interesting man. At least you'll have many warm memories and, whenever you play one of those instruments, you'll also be holding a fond rememberance of him.

Erik,

Please accept my deep condolences on the loss of your father.

From your description of him, I know he is a man that I would have enjoyed knowing. Not meeting- but knowing. You surely feel that you were blessed to have shared in his walk through this world. I hope you can go forward with a lighter heart now that he is not suffering any longer.

As you look back on your relationship, I also hope you can see and recall the things he imparted to you, and the high points that made the relationship strong.

God Bless you, and you whole family- Dad included.

So sorry for your loss. It comes to all of us. My mom left us 11 years ago. Every time I see my dad lately there's a bit less of what he used to be. It's hard, but it's what life deals us.

I'll never play like Earl Scruggs or sing like Luciano Pavarotti, but I'll pick better than Luciano and sing tenor better than Earl
