Really?! Hm. I guess that depends on which faith you're coming from, cause the first recorded miracle of Jesus was turning water into wine (not grape juice, as some like to claim).

Aside from that minor point, I haven't really had many alcoholic drinks that I've liked. I haven't had any beer that I've liked yet, but I'm willing to try a few more (not getting my hopes up, though.)

Anybody had this? You can get it all over the place here (of course), but in eight years of living here, I still haven't tried one. I have friends that say it's good, though.

Zach, you got it right, the stuff that most Americans call beer is in no relation beer!! Real Beer, you can taste the seasons in, it is just like wine, every region has there own, and it all is distinct. Beer was a mainstay in many Germanian countries, it kept them healthy in the winter, it is full of all kinds of good stuff. What is now American beer is just what happens to everything here, make it cheep, and lets see how drunk we can get, they have turned it into something bad!!

Randy, if you grew up in MO, you would know that Bud was not the first Brewry here, it is just the one that had more money, and gave people what they wanted, a cheap beer, that has no flavor, The oldest brewry here is still in business and has a pretty good taste, I just can't seem to spit the name of it out at the moment. But it is something to do with Smokey Flavor.

Our house favorites you can get if you stop by, (always in the pantry) Any Scotish Ales, Harp, b**** Creek (American), Dead Horse Ale (American), Poligamy Porter (American) And always a good amount of some fine German brew, along with a 4 pack of Skull Splitter also.

I think you might want to add Sam Adams to your list of beers to try.

In its first five years of production their Boston Lager becamse the first American beer to pass the German beer purity laws and so is now sold in Germany as well as throughout the US.

Sam Adams Light Beer was found by the Germans to be so excellent that they gave it an award even though there was no category for Light beers in their contest.

Forgive me for bragging, but My American Pale Ale won "Best of Show" honors at a local homebrew comp last week. My Belgian Tripel won 1st place in it's class as well.

Sam Adams is good brew!
I have done a little single stage home brewing myself. I have made some drinkable beer, but sometimes it winds up tasting like cardboard.

At home I mostly drink Great Lakes, Dos Eqqus, or Heineken. My real favorite is a german import called Euler, but it's hard to find at home. When traveling, I look for local microbrews. Every place has foods, beverages and destinations they are proud of, I like to let them show me some of their favorites. I wouldn't mind trying a home-brew by a certain local BHO member, either.

As poplar as Sam Adams seems to be ,it does'nt do it for me.

That's not bragging, just fact if you've done it! The ability to brew a fine beer seems like a very useful life skill.

What's a Belgian Tripel?

Belgian Tripel is a pale beer with little hop bitterness and a higher alcohol content, usually 9-10%. It should have a nice malt flavor with a dry finish. Belgian yeast strains are used to provide a unique distinct flavor profile. Some of the best examples are brewed in Belgian monastarys and abbeys.

Well, I like Corona with a lime, so yesterday I bought a six pack of bud lite lime. It's not too bad. I have a pot of peanuts boiling on the stove. I think I'll sit back and watch the second half of the Tampa Bay / Miami game and enjoy some salty boiled peanuts and beer.

Just to let you all know, the pool temp just reached 86, thanks to six solar panels on the roof. I may peel back the pool cover and do some swimmin'. I knew there was a reason I lived in Florida.

See ya!

Thanks, Mod.

I had thought of mentioning that Python quip, but I figured the Mods wouldn't allow it.

How silly of me.

Since the title of this thread is "Beer Summit", I would be remiss to not add my favorite.
Summit Extra Pale Ale, brewed in St. Paul Minnesota. No "watery taste" here!

Yes! On a river trip, or in the desert camping, or anytime I've been drinking a good amout of cheap beer, at some point I want some Clamato in it to give it some flavor.

The folks who make Polygamy Porter also make 1st Amendment Lager and Evolution Amber Ale (seriously). They also make a mean root beer.

MTBanjo - Posted - 11/16/2009:  09:20:02

And they used to make St. Provo Girl beer...which if you don't know Utah too well may not be funny...but St Pauly Girl thought it was an infringement so they put a stop to it. It's all 3.2% alcohol beer...but it's good They like to use the "by volume" figure because then it's 4%, but's 3.2 beer.
