Hi:
I am replacing a banjo head and would like to know if there is a customary orientation for the Trademark, ie. the REMO brand. At the neck, under the tailpiece, or closest to your face.
In other words, if you stood the banjo up and looked at it, would it go at the top, bottom, left or right.
Thanks.
I cycle a lot, and the tire brand is "supposed" to be oriented at the valve stem.
Thanks.

It's usually under the strings if you want it to be seen, or under the tailpiece if you don't want it to be seen, your choice. Or nail polish will remove it and you don't have to worry about it.
Interesting statement about cycling... many years ago I worked at a Schwinn shop, and we were taught to put the tire pressure information at the valve stem.

It's a matter of preference, but I like to keep the logo under the tailpiece. I think it gives the banjo a cleaner look, but I see just as many with the logo at the top as I do under the tailpiece. I guess it all depends on whether or not you want to see the logo on the head; how you position the logo has no effect on sound at all.

most folks either put the trademark under the tailpiece, or near the neck, centered under the strings...it's purely up to you, wherever you want it...

Most don't want it to be seen, so best hidden under the tailpiece.
Intentionally putting the head label in a prominent, visible place is kind of like putting white wall tires on your bike.

Hi -- I think the "important" thing is that is is the same on both wheels. To what PSI do you inflate the banjo head? No, wait, I'm confused. Thanks everyone for your help.

Last time I stopped at the gas station to inflate my banjo... I couldn't find the valve stem!

I always put the logo under the tailpiece. Interesting suggestion about the nail polish (remover?)- I'll have to give that a try next time.
When a banjo head making company wants to pay me to sponsor their banjo head only then will I put the logo under the strings.

For an idea of one unintended consequence of having the head maker's logo visible at the neck: I once saw an eBay listing for a Remo banjo.

I've saw a pawn shop dealer tell a customer that a new Asian banjo that they had was made in America because it had a Remo head on it that was stamped "Made in U.S.A."!
I don't like the Remo stamp showing because I have not seen one yet that is stamped straight... it is usually to the right of center line. IMHO

There are lots of "Remo" banjos on eBay - its a sure clue the seller knows little about banjos.
My personal preference is to remove the label with lacquer thinner or acetone - I've already paid for the head, why display their advertising? But I'm an old crank.

It's under the truss rod cover, silly. I'll never play like Earl Scruggs or sing like Luciano Pavarotti, but I'll pick better than Luciano and sing tenor better than Earl deligo ergo renideo, Bob Cameron

So that's what that little cover is for! Now I just have to figure out what to inflate it to!

I put my Head Logo under the tail piece it's a cleaner looking setup and if folks want to know what head you use just tell them, However if your lucky enough to be playing for a living and have a sponsor by all means display the logo at the neck position or at the top.

I was out in the garage last night trying to tap tune my bicycle tires...Greg has me totally confused!
I've just been removing the logos with nail polish remover, and then I don't have to worry about it!

Now that's the best idea I've heard yet for lightening up a banjo!... Not sure what my bandmates would say about the flower-power though

I've see old photos of early Remo heads where the owners proudly displayed the logo at about the 10:00 position.
I guess they wanted everyone to know that they were using the latest in banjo technology.

here in the UK the convention seems to be, bluegrassers logo next to the neck, frailers under the tailpiece, I just assumed that was the way of the world !

I LOVE WIDE WHITEWALLS....and like to SEE the head emblem under the neck..I think it adds to the looks of the banjo. The devil's in the details. When I get a flat on my bike ,I'm usually lucky to get 'er fixed and back on the bike and home before dark!Let alone trying to position where the brand is.How many P.S.I. in the 'jo to lighten 'er up?If you put helium in the tone ring I guess it'd have to be a no-holer!?!

Good point! I'm on my way to the garage to get the belt sander to take that pesky "Gibson" name off my headstock.
