I thought i'de start this thread as I remember PART of a movie i watched in about 1974 ( ish ) that had some nifty Banjo music in it and is a movie i dont know the title of and would love to find.
It was about an Astronaut ( i thought was James Franciscus but isnt ) He landed on what he thought was the moon but turned out to be some desert in the states...He walked until he found a road ( which he thought odd ) the some old couple in a car came along and just so happened to stop near him BUT they couldnt see him so he snuck into their car ..in the back of the car was a parrot in a cage and that could see him...turned out all animals could see him but not people as he was a few seconds 'out of time' with the real world.....I remember the Banjo music and even have it on cassette taped directly from the t.v.

So if you know what the film was could you let me know thanks...( no its not a twilight Zone or any of those series as ive recently watched all those and its not one of those )

If not then please continue the thread on any movies you know with Banjo music in them....Yeah we all know Deliverance.
......Cheers .....Kev.

You can hear a lot of Bobby Thompson's banjo on the sound track of Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and the Smoky and the Bandit 1 & 2 movies.

Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer played music for the National Geo story of the Appalachian Mountain Trail that aired this past week. Sounded great as always.

I would re-ask the question with a better title. folks are responding to the title, not to the question.

I watched Land of the Lost yesterday with my 17yr old daughter that just had all 4 wisdom teeth out. I laughed a lot, she smiled a few times.

Anyway the point is that Will Farrell plays a banjo, badly, in one segment of the movie.

You don't see the musicians, but there's OLD TIME banjo in Gangs of New York, in the bustling street scenes.

A Simple Twist of Fate: Steve Martin plays a little bit of clawhammer.

Aside: why movies are so expensive. One scene of ASTOF was filmed at my kids' school. They sent an advance crew to scope it out & prep the site, then the real crew, getting it all set with body doubles & stand-ins, and then a week or more to shoot the scene. Movie script had to be approved by the headmaster, etc. Well naturally when the film came out we all went to see how good our school looked. I blinked and missed it, had to watch it a second time to catch it. That scene could have been shot anywhere in the world, without all the travel & logistics. Anyway, ain't complainin' just laffin.

A movie that is somewhat Astro-nautical, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, (happens to have been written my my fav. author Douglas Adams ) has a banjo focused musical them. Great track too! As I recall from watching the ole BBC show, that too had a similar soundtrack.

Maybe the banjo really is from space....

I would almost certainly like to thank Werner Heisenberg for making everything a little less certain, maybe.

Playing banjo on that sound track is Ben Freed. He's a fantastic banjo player, you might want to check him out ,he's great. He's also a very generous and friendly guy.
He's helped me a lot with my playing ,often free of charge.

I just finished watching "The Pride of Jesse Hallam" starring Johnny Cash, one of those double feature DVDs that sell for $1.00 at Wal-Mart and other places. Johnny did the sound track of course. There is some banjo picking throughout the movie, with an interesting version of "Paradise," along with some other songs that didn't excite me. When the credits rolled around, I found the banjo player's name: Earl Scruggs.

Late to this thread. But the title music to Tarantino's bizzare, disturbing and utterly weird "Pulp Fiction" was "Flowers On The Wall" by the Statler Bros. Serious banjo in the mix. Most likely Bobby Thompson, but don't know for sure.
