I saw the 4 today also, pretty nice. The 2pc flange Granada he had is gone and so is the prewar RB 7 TT

Don, I noticed it was gone so it sold or the owner took it back. I got the 1918 F4 mando I mentioned but sent it back, it had a repair under the pick guard that was not mentioned but it did sound good.

I've seen the TB-4 George has-it looks very nice. George brought a beautiful old 'style 6' flat head by a studio I was working in a few weeks ago, and I was very impressed with the tone; it's one of the sweetest sounding old Mastertones I've heard. I believe it had an original low profile tone ring in it.. I have no financial interest in the banjos-

There's an uncut early 30s TB-1 in the tenor section too

I think he's had that tb-4 for a while. Looks just like my dad's.

Rex - he has two of them. I think the new one is the last one on the list - and $500 less than the one that has been there for a while.

Well I can look and drool LOL. My dream ultimate banjo is a style 6 checkerboard though. Like I'd probably ever be lucky enough to own one but a man can dream LOL

Right you are and it looks a bit cleaner - or maybe just a better photo. I really do miss my dad's. Rex

Wow, hard to believe., well find out if he wants to sell it. Did you hear him playing it ? I have 1926 RB3 but it has a old 19 hole flat top ring in it , a great playing and sounding banjo.

Sorry guys. I rushed on that one. My foot is in my mouth. Serves me right for not spending as much time around here lately! Slap my wrist with a splintered ruler!
the $12K TB4 is actually much nicer looking! here: http://www.gruhn.com/photo/JE2945.jpg
Beautiful! you see how the originals have stump wood and NOT BURL on the resonator backs? There's one of the major problems with the Gibson reissues, along with the lack of chrome.

Great story Don, I would of taken the Loar over the BB also. I had a friend that bought a Loar for 14 K about 20 years ago.
