Hey Gang,
Well, I drug my feet when it came to downloadin a new anti virus program .When I upgraded AVG to 9.0 , it started boggin down youtube to the point I couldnt watch any videos so I got rid of it cause ya cant turn it off..I thought I would be safe only going to sites I regularly go to???I been just going to Myspace, Banjo hangout,Youtube, and 2-3 others that are secure sites BUT....Yeah , I clicked to get my mail and it hung up on me for a minute...Then up popped a program called anitivirus PRO and it automatically started scanning..Nothing I could do.. When I shut down the puter, then re booted , there it was ...This time its WORSE cause I cant run Adobe Audtion to record.Cant open WMP,cant do anything but open folders AND "PLAY" files in Adobe Audtion which leads me to believe that my music files are not infected. I just put a foldeer of tunes in a T drive and brought them up here to the old WIN 2000 computer and AVG 9.0 didnt detect anything. This poor ole computer wont hardly run a session , it doesnt have enough RAM PLUS with that crazy AVG in this one, it would REALLY bog it down...Man , this will be the 3rd time Ive lost all my presets, links etc.Anyway, yall be careful out there. John

There's a virus that infects by posing as an online antivirus progam (AVG) and has an icon that looks like the microsoft one. you click on it and it infects your computer. It sounds as if that is what might have gotten yours. If you have any doubts about the validity of what pops up in the guise of an online antivirus, assume that is a virus. Lorna

Sorry to hear this, John. I've been waiting before I install the 9.0 myself, giving it some time to sort out.
I searched and found this:

It might help, but if it doesn't.....I suggest you starting a new thread on the AVG forum. They are pretty knowledgeable there.

I haven't updated to 9 either. I got in trouble when I upgraded to internet explorer 7. My HP photo software went wacky.

Hey john, I know this sounds cruel but if you have disk that came with your computer? Then take them out and start allover again. Try to save what you want but if not possible bring that computer back to factory condition and then get a GOOD anti-virus installed. I use McAfee but that's just because it's free with Comcast. Good luck and safe hunting/installing

I have AVG 9.0 and haven't noticed any ill effects using it on Vista. The only issue I have is that when it does run a scan it slows the computer way down, but not any more than the previous version. I believe that there is a setting somewhere to decrease the priority of the scan but I try to let it run when I am not around. If I need to do something while it is running, I simply stop the scan and let it run again the next day.

Hey Gang, Thanks for the replies and suggestions..MAN , this virus is a TRIP... ..Ive been messin with it..It kinda like being in a pit with a snake you KNOW sooner or later is gonna bite and kill ya, BUT you torment it anyway.. ...IT cant figure out how Im using Adobe auditon to PLAY my files. And the music files are OK ...I think???..OH , it starts pile up those alert windows on me FAST and makes it a pain to see the screen BUT, Im faster..Im kickin its but for now and at least able to run adobe. Its shut down everything else but the recording program...It pops up and try as to tell me this app is infected but good ole adobe says SIS on YOU PISTER and plays the files anyway.. Yeah, a local cpmputer outlet says it will take about a HR to dump my 15 GBs' of music and pics on to a HD ,THEN another HR to re formatt the HD and load it back up ..Around 130$...hmmm??? Does that sound about right?
Thanks , John
