IF my banjo is tuned gCGBD, and I put the capo on the 4th fret to play in E, to what do I need to tune my 5th sting? G#?

Thanks

B. you'll need a spike or 5th string capo of some kind.

If you have a capo or spike, the most similar sound will be if the 5th string goes up the same number of frets as the capo.

So B (4 frets is a good choice).
Other options are the other two notes of the chord, which is either E (impossible) or G# fret one.
Without a 5th string capo or spike, I would choose G# but it will change the sound and how the 5th string fits in.

Not too much of a problem if you're just trying to play a song, but if you're trying to copy an arrangement, it may not sound the same and if the arrangement is trying teach string relationships, it may even throw you off.

you really only need to capo the 5th string and play open in all the key's.--------------key of A&D--capo the 5th string @ the 7th fret, Key of Bd--capo the 5th string @ the 8th fret, Key of B&E--capo the 5th string @ the 9th fret, Key of C&F--10th fret. If you don't have the 5th string RR spikes, Janet Davis Music sells a "Reagon 5th string capo that works very well and sells for about $10.00.
