What is the general tuning of and archtop head? I have mine at about A and that sounds purty good for my ear.

A buddy of my has got a arch top he built with a sullivan ring in it and it is at an A. It sounds really good and im not even an archtop fan.

Well Tom, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've never been concerned with the note my raised heads were tuned to. Just that they sounded right. But, I guess that's also my lack of knowledge.

I think the best advice given above is find where you like it. The PW ATs can produce a nice variety of tone. My archie Granada, can produce either the Stanley tone, when cranked very tight (near B#) or, my preference, a bit looser, it is closer to a flathead; you'll know when its too loose, it will lose volume and pop. I been playing it a lot more lately with the looser head, in some ways I like it better than my TB-1 conversion. Let us know where you settle.

Thanks Bruce, Thats what I always do too is see where it sounds good. After all this tuning stuff came out I just got confused and ended up tuning it to my ear anyway. I know what you mean about looser head on pw at sounding better than any of my flattheads. Thanks for all the input. Billy
