Yes, it would be OK with ME personally, but it would be necessary to lock the thread because it clearly is opening up a "religious debate" which is against the rules. And being locked down because of a rule violation is OK with me, too. The original poster violated no rules. He did not ask for "religious debate", only asked a question about obtaining information. It's a shame that some have attempted to TURN it into a debate.

A general observation:
Threads get locked because someone has a belief or value entrenched in their system and feel they HAVE to state how they feel.
That goes for threads on Gibson banjos, pre-war sound, tone rings, the Bible, God and Evolution.
I too have a entrenched beliefs concerning some post on this thread. But I have been able to take a deep breath, swallow some water and not post my position.
Why?
There are 40,000 people on here and not all of them agree with what I feel is the truth. So why alienate all those people with a post? I can't convince you by being abrasive. That goes for any topic you care to choose.

Now locally, if there is something being said that I don't agree with, I will, and do, voice my opinon. I have that responsiblilty to fulfill.

Anyway, the guy was asking for a good online bible study course. It is only coincidental that another thread was asking for good reads on evolution.

Let's just give them what they asked for.

Now who makes the best tone rings?

But, as shown in the rules, religious topics, period, are prohibited.

Nothing about discretion of the moderators, nothing about non-argumentative.

Religious topics are prohibited!

Can it be any clearer?

I beg to differ. From the rules section:

Non-argumentative religious topics will be allowed at the moderators' discretion (ie, a "Please pray for so and so" topic is fine.) Religious and political debate are not allowed.

yeesh... I figured if you had an opinion on a bible study that you'd used or liked, you'd chime in... if you didn't you wouldn't.

Adam, please accept my apologies if it appears that I have attempted to hijack your thread. I was merely trying to defend the rules of the HO. You know, the Lord gave us many commands, but two come to mind here:

1) Go and make disciples of all nations.

We Christians are most eager to follow this command, to the point sometimes of becoming a little, dare I say, obnoxious about it. That's where the second command comes in (and I must paraphrase here, my Bible is not with me today; OOPS):

2) If you go into a town, and the residents refuse to hear the message, go to the edge of that town, knock the dust off your feet, and move on.

I believe I'll follow the second command and leave this thread, having said my piece. God bless all who have participated.

Everyone please limit their comments to the subject of the original post. The subject is not the moderation or evolution theories, just a request for some information.

There aren't many posts on this site where someone (like me I guess...in this situation) who doesn't have an answer to the specific question doesn't chime in. Best to get used to it.

This is not a study course but you might find it interesting. This is Robert Barclay's Quaker apology.
It was written in the 1600's and uses an older sort of English but if you can read the King James edition of the bible you'll find it easy enough. You can read the entire text on line here:
http://www.qhpress.org/texts/barcla...y/index.html
I suggest this partly because it's a central tenet of Quakerism that your teacher is within you waiting to lead you personally through "bible study" and all other study.

How about John Piper's www.desiringgod.org ? I do not know what denomination he hails from, nor do I care. The man has wisdom and can present it well, and he doesn't have flakey ideas or teaching.

Be careful in just following any website study with reckless abandon, some are near cult-like, so it would be wise to cross-check things that you read/hear (hey, a little pun there, and I didn't even intend it).

How about that, a post that has to do with the original question! Who woulda thought?!

Not on-line, but one of the New Testament Bibles I saw in a store had all the words of Jesus highlighted in red.

Made it easy to pick out the important parts (no offense to anyone who thinks all the parts are equally important).
