My wife decided to take bass lessons. She has a borrowed bass and her instructor started her on "Salty Dog Blues". I now hear it in my sleep and the bass vibrates the whole house. I can't wait until she gets good enough to provide me with some improved timing.

Lucky you! Wish I lived with another musician!

Remember trying to fall asleep at night and all those rolls going through your head and you had to get up many times during the night thinking you figured it out in your head. Well don't be surprised if you wake up at 3:00 in the morning hearing Foggy Mountain Breakdown or Banjo In The Holler being played on the Hound Dog Bass. Good Luck

I also think you are very lucky to have a bass player in the family!

Playing bass is tons of fun. I enjoy every jam I go to with mine. Of course, that double hernia surgery I had to endure a month or so ago made me wonder if piccolo or harmonica would have been a better choice of an instrument. Maybe one of these days I'll find a mate who appreciates it, too.

Yes, Steve it's an upright 3/4 size. And Ed you want MEEEEEE to buy the bass?? I'm paying for her lessons and if I buy the bass and shes quits playing it........ I may have to have her pay me for having Salty Dog in my head playing over and over and over and over.

My wife had a problem with timing at the beginning but at one point, it just clicked and she discovered the downbeat. It is great having a wife that plays standup bass. It is much easier to practice syncopation and alternate rolls with a bass player who is with you all of the time. Your patience will pay great dividends in the end.
