Man it's a tough market to be selling; everyone is looking for a deal. You will be able to sell it if you put it on eBay, but you might not get your price.

If you want to move it, sell it for $1500.00... you'll sell it quick!!

trayler, Josh is correct...this is a tough market to be selling in. He's also correct in the thought that you'd probably get your best price out of eBay. I know there are many on this wonderful site that eschew eBay...for their own reasons...but w/ really good photos and an accurate/complete description you'll be presenting it to a much larger audience. Many on this also site feel that you should be offering some type of "banjo-buddy" discount when offering items for sale here.
I played one of these limited issue Gibson RB-75VL's at the Galt House in Louisville this past March or April. There was a bluegrass event there and David Harvey (Gibson representative) was there w/ a booth. Many fine mandolins & banjos...but, imho, the best banjo there was one of these RB-75VL models. Dave said it really suited me and I should buy it...it was a very fine banjo.
Kevin, was your suggestion to sell it for $1500 a lame attempt at humor...or a serious suggestion?
Best of luck trayler,
Brian

Traylor, I feel your pain. I had to sell a banjo back in the spring and lost about 700.00 but I needed the money and had to sacrifice. I am now in the market for another and have looked at the lower line of stuff but after having 2 different top of line stuff it is hard not to be spoiled about what I will settle for. It is definantly a buyers market and to sell sellers have to be flexable. I can remember not to long ago that the seller had the advantage and got top dollar, the tides have turned and I am hoping I can recover by getting a deal on a good banjo, sorry for the seller but I took a lick, now my turn to caych a break. Good luck, and I really like your 75.

We sold a 2005 75 (not limited edition of course) within one day on the BHO classifieds for $2500 plus $50 shipping (though it was more and we footed that bill). It was obviously less than we paid by thousands, and with the fast responses, I realized we could have had a slightly higher price.

Good luck, we did get 5 responses that day, if you do want a quick sell; a low price is the way to go. Maybe a hair under $3k would work?

It may help to put your bottom line price on it. It will be a tough sale since some of those prewar banjo's are cheaper to buy now.

If you're REALLY got to sell it, I suggest you put a sale date in your ad, and say Best Offer gets it on that date. That will generate a bit of excitement and also generate some offers, even if they're low.

You'll have to decide if you want to post the offers or not, and how to discipline yourself and everybody to really CLOSE at the closing time.

If you don't REALLY have to sell it, hang onto it for a year and try again.

I think the advice you've gotten so far is pretty darned good. Many folks wanting an RB-75 will wait for one of the previous models, which are selling for between $2300.00-2600.00. Your RB-75 VL is obviously more desirable because of the finish and the limited production, but I'm not certain what that premium really is at the moment.

If you are truly serious about selling, my advice is to lower the price to below $3000.00, or follow The Old Timer's advice and start taking offers with an end date. I don't think there are any BHO rules about running your own auction as long as you list a "Buy it now" price in your ad.

Hey Doug, David told me that Folks who have traded their D model Ode for a High end Gibson model banjo? Straight up??? To folks they knew were looking for that "signature banjo to make them different from the rest of the pack.. you know the ones that have been playing less than a year and play a few banjo gigs every week already?? those guys??" Yeah the people who traded their Ode D models to them, well.. they had endless nights of good sleep, won every lottery ticket they bought, gained night vision, their grandkids all acted right when they visited, had the biggest tmatoes from their gardens in the summer, the sun shined around their house every day even when it was raining on their neighbors, all kinds of good stuff.. Just what I heard

I think you are wasting your time trying to sell it on BHO. I have always had more success selling instruments on ebay, none on BHO. BHO "lookers" are pretty sophisticated and technical and at the same time want the instrument deeply discounted or for free. (It seems like.)
