Vote for your favorite design!

I've chosen the top 4, and I'm going to let the membership determine the winner. I'm displaying them in black and white as I'll be deciding on colors once we pick a winner.

Go here to place your vote: http://www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/polls/?id=33

Since I don't "do" t-shirts I probably shouldn't have voted...............but I did. Could the winning design be put on a "regular" shirt or made available for us to put on shirts? There were a whole bunch of terrific designs submitted!

schlange - Posted - 11/30/2009:  20:45:01

What exactly is a "regular" shirt?

robertsart - Posted - 12/01/2009:  04:33:12

Eric, just out of curiosity... Will the polling system allow folks to vote only once? I hope it's set up that way.

If not, all folks would have to do is keep voting until the design they like has the most votes. That doesn't seem quite right...

Since I have a horse in this race, I won't vote at all until I hear your response...

Thanks!
scott

Eric -- sorry about the "regular" shirt phrase! Basically, I'm referring to a shirt, long- or short-sleeved, with a collar (button down or not), with one or two placket pockets on the front and which buttons up the front; usually made of cotton, polyester, wool, etc. (denim might be good for banjoists!) i.e.: a 'dress' shirt or a 'sport' shirt. Being somewhat less than trim, T-shirts exaggerate my 'features', which I certainly don't need done, while 'shirt' shirts often conceal parts of my pear shape. Now that I've given you far more information than you needed, I'll say "good-bye".

Frailinaway - Posted - 12/01/2009:  07:56:14

Eric -- 'follow-up' to the 'shirt thing'. It's easy for us out here in Banjo Land to just lob ideas at you and not worry about all the details involved. I'm sure that you/BHO have no desire to get into the 'regular shirt' business so here's another lob from a non-T-shirt guy: has the possibility of embroidered patches, same design as the one chosen for the T-shirts, ever been considered? Such patches could be used in lieu of, or as an alternative to, the T-shirts for BHO/Union members and could be sewn onto shirts, vests, jackets, etc. Over the years, these garments would serve as a walking billboard for BHO. The idea isn't original but I wanted to send it up the flagpole and see what happens.................not that you don't have more than enough to do already!

Scott--you can only vote once. You have to be signed in as a member to vote, and the system tracks votes by the member who placed it. You can always go in and CHANGE your vote as long as the poll is still active, but you can't vote multiple times.

Sounds good... Thanks Eric!!!

eric,
is there any chance of having two shirts this year?
it seems like perhaps 2 of the designs are more geared towards the bluegrassers
and two of them are geared towards the old timers. i think if you used one
of each, you'd probably get more people joining up and sporting shirts. maybe the
person with the most votes could win the $200 and the other could just
be happy to have designed a hangout shirt?

also, i know i suggested this in just about every post but am still curious
about the possibility of a more "regular" colored shirt this year. something
simple like white, grey, brown or dark blue with black ink or black with white ink? i'd be
much more likely to join up then!

I feel somehow compelled to vote for the design with the Squared Eel in it.
And, not to be too vain, that could also represent the many cigar-box banjos made by several other members.

I'm with Evret... to me a t-shirt is an undershirt. I've been given several with stuff printed on 'em that, like my 57 white Fruits of the Loom, stay under my long-sleeve snap-front shirts.

Edit to add: Though I'm far from pear-shaped, as Evret will attest. More like asparagus... or, if you will... a stringbean...

I hear what you're all saying about shirts. But this is the point: The shirt is a premium gift that comes with membership in the players union. Because the point of the players union is to support the Hangout, the more expensive is the shirt the less money goes to the Hangout. The tee-shirt is a better premium because it is cheaper to produce, so the Hangout gets more of the contribution.

Of course there are other options. Membership costs adjusted to match the value of the premium, for example. $X will get you a tee-shirt, $XX will get you a golf shirt, $XXX will get you a button-down shirt. IMHO the only way that would work is if it is made clear that there is only ONE kind of membership; that the cost gradations cover the premium and do not confer "levels" of membership.

The other option is to use the tee-shirt as the premium and put the other versions of the shirt in the store. I just bought a golf shirt with a simple BHO logo over the breast. It wasn't part of any premium, I just like spending my wife's retirement money (as she phrases it). The "nice" shirts can go in the store for people desirious of spending their spouses retirement savings ;-) Finally, IMHO the patch isn't a nice enough premium but can be added to the store offerings.

I think un5trung's idea of a patch as an item that could be purchased from the store is great! I also agree with his other comments about "the shirt". I'd like to say something like "great minds run.............." but I don't have a great mind.
(Brian, you're absolutely correct: "pear" isn't a descriptive word for your physical appearance but let's not pursue it any further............)

I laughed out loud at that 'un!

Hey... no fair... you're already a BHO union member... and I'm not.

Joking aside... I need to dispel my aversion to the "Union" part of the label and remind myself that it isn't a real one. Then I can join! Or I guess I could contribute to the site w/o being a Unionist...

I found a simple remedy to the "Union" problem with some white-out:

An onion is better than a pear, I guess!

Maybe make it the Banjo Hangout Players Club instead, if some people don't like Union. Or Banjo Hangout Premium Member.

Congratulations, JackJack on your winning design!

Thanks to everyone who voted for my designs and for all of the nice comments.

It's nice to know that many of you (well, about 34% of you ) like my work...

Thanks again!

Thanks for your great designs, Scott. I say we save them for next year!

I'm working with JackJack right now to finalize the design for 2010. Thanks to everyone who contributed designs!

KE - Posted - 12/10/2009:  09:11:02

I'd buy one of Scott's designs right now, with or without the BHO logo, if they were made available. I bet a lot of old-time players would as well. Just a thought.

un5trung - Posted - 12/10/2009:  10:33:58

Yeah, KE, I'm with you on that one. BHO has a store that can presumably sell anything it wants, and there are other venues.

Support the arts!

JackJack - Posted - 12/10/2009:  11:01:25

Thanks everyone! I appreciate votes. I'm very honored to have my design chosen as the Banjo Hangout 2010 Players Union t-shirt. And, thanks to Eric for giving us the chance to contribute our ideas and talents to the BHO.

Scott, your designs were super cool. I was just happy to even have my art chosen to be in the final running with yours.

As Eric mentioned, I'm working on the finalized piece and getting it prepped for press.

I secretly think it was the inclusion of the Squared Eel silhouette that give the design an advantage.
