This is driving me mad! What size wrench fits the Deering Goodtime banjo head? Not 1/4, too small, not 5/16, too big, not 8 metric, not 7 metric. I tried the screwdriver socket as well, too big. I'm reday to grag my trusty pliers, but that's a pain!

My Fender Leo takes 9/32 on the hooks and truss rod. Janet Davis has them on sale right now:

Thanks... ordering onr right now! Four years, never tightened the head. Nuts are just about finger tight!

OK, the title of this thread is just not right. It would take a very large wrench to tighten my head...and it still wouldn't be worth much!

I think it's over there on the left next to your glasses, hiding under that piece of sandpaper.

I guess there is always a time & place for humour, to be serious now sometimes these tools & wrenches aren’t always hiding themselves under glass paper {to call it by its right name} lets hope that Falconeman found his 9/32” inch wrench in time to tighten his nuts to his required torque, I have heard tell that the little green men, tall men, gray thin men, whatever, hey why don’t any one see little green females or other they arriving in their silver saucers & go walkabout looking for Banjos and spare parts maybe they are keen on 9/32” and fancy nuts too!! I do know I have lost many, and always am ordering a couple of dozen or so, well I am certain one time I did hear my Banjo being picked in the next room when I did know there was nobody in there, and if we earthlings do find out where the UFOs go for repairs or servicing I’m sure that’s where all the parts are ....is it for certain that a hum is heard when they are about... maybe it’s some picking going on and they got the amplification out of adjustment ....sure as hell scares me...

Ok, went to the work bench (automotive bench) and found my 1/4" drive deep sockets. Now where's the tourqe wrench? Don't want to overtighten the nuts! Keep it clean fellas!

...in all my 66 years of ramblin' around all 50 U.S. states and 10 Canadian provinces, I've never heard of the term "glass paper". Never been to your side of the pond, though, but may get there in May if the GD dollar doesn't go to hell in a handbasket.

Hi John....I like yourself ask for sandpaper in a store, but I think it's actually an abrasive such as aluminium oxide or other etc which is a glass, at one time sand was used as an abrasive and patented in the U.S.A. see links below, but it was first called glass paper and patented in England, don't think sand is used at all now. I recall as an apprentice asking for another sheet of sand paper, and being told "don't have any" got some glass paper do I want that.....but I'm still wondering if falconeman has found his 9/32"....? or has he been hearing that humming noise...hey are they snatching Banjo players as well ? lets all hope he writes soon

Well, I tightened things up a bit, sounding much better. I only turned the nuts about one turn, but that did raise the bridge a bit. I'll have to adjust the action as now the strings are too high from about the 1oth fret down the neck. Gettin there...

Wow, more plugs than a hardware store. Seriously, though, I like your wrench. Next time I lose mine, I'm going to get one of yours.
