Do you remember the first thing you posted here on the banjo hangout as a newbie? Was it a question? Was it a statement, or a just a simple "Hello?" For the life of me, I can't remember. But, I'll bet is was something along the lines of "How do you play this confounded thing!!??"

What did you say?

KE - Posted - 10/19/2009:  19:14:51

I can't remember my first post. I do remember lurking for a while, and after I had won second prize in the drawing (a Bela DVD) and bought a couple of banjos on the B&S I decided it was time to de-lurk.

pandjlocke - Posted - 10/19/2009:  19:54:36

My first post was the typical "what kind of banjo can I get for $500?" I got one answer that resulted in my purchasing my Morgan Monroe MNB-2 from the BHO classifieds, and a whole bunch of "You can't get a decent banjo for less than $1,526,725.00" type of answers. And still I wasn't discouraged.

Nope, but it was probably an answer to someone wanting a good 25.00 banjo, so they could play like Earl in two or three weeks...

Yep! It was what is the brand of banjo Carl Jackson played on his 'Carl Jackson banjo player' album. Scott Zimmerman (desert rose) replied it was a 'bluebird' ( Masterclone sold in Japan). Hows that for memory eh!! can't remember what i did yesterday though!

I was "hanging out" at the BHO for a few months before I actually joined....but I don't recall my first post. All I remember is I just jumped in on a thread and ended up posting about 15 or so posts before I realized, ooops...I never really 'introduced' myself, which is more-or-less the custom, (I finally did though).

I think my first post was on a thread about Reagan 5th string capos, I thought, "Hey, I've got one of those, I'll put in my 2 cents, it's as good a time as any for my first post". I kind of lurked around also for a few months, and I finally joined. I think I had been registered for a while before I actually started posting.

Is it possible to sort one's archived posts, by date, and actually SEE the darned thing?

Otherwise, I simply haven't the TIME to look at sixteen thousand posts.
No, I don't remember.
I do remember that it included an invite for everyone ot visit my Littlebanjos website.

I remember asking for a tab of Bobby Thompson and Roy Clark's Hee Haw version of "Bury Me Beneath the Willow"... didn't get much of a response. But one or two folks posted that they loved that rendition of the tune.

With the exception of maybe four people, everybody else with lots of stars under their avatars, too, can't remember their first post. Is this what I have to look forward to? I mean, playing banjo has already warped my mind. Will it be totally shot after a few thousand posts on the hangout??

I lurked only enough to read how well Goodtime banjos were recommended for beginners. I'd seen one hanging in a music shop in Westerly, Rhode Island and it had piqued my interest. I Googled and found the BHO. After that - I probably posted to announce that I'd bought one - February of 2004

I was asking rather or not anybody knew if a left-handed case is made (I have since found that they are not. They should be though!). A few people said "what do you mean?" others said "why not a regular case?." It pretty much turned into a joke thread about why anybody would ask such a stupid question. But alas, I kept posting and eventually found the games...where I have been residing ever since.

I think I asked a "Can You identify This Banjo Question" about an old tenor someone gave me. I got the response "proabably a Slingerland." I have watched over the years and that is almost the standard answer for an unidentifiable, common banjo in the Collector's Corner. I smile everytime I read it. I guess Slingerland was so prolific making rims for other companies that there really are a bunch of them. I wish some of the posts in the archives were not lost.
